Historia
This first full-scale history of the development of the American suburb examines how "the good life" in America came to be equated with the a home of one's own surrounded by a grassy yard and located far from the urban workplace. Integrating social history with economic and architectural analysis, and taking into account such factors as the availability of cheap land, inexpensive building methods, and rapid transportation, Kenneth Jackson chronicles the phenomenal growth of the American suburb from the middle of the 19th century to the present day.

Interesting, but a bit dry and long winded.

I thought the topics and statistics covered in the book were interesting. it really details how the US ended up as such a suburban nation. however the story didn't always keep my attention. the author goes on a bit longer than needed to make a point sometimes. worth listening once, but probably won't be listening a second time.

Historia
Leading experts from business and academia consider coffee's history, global spread, cultivation, preparation, marketing, and the environmental and social issues surrounding it today. They discuss, for example, the impact of globalization; the many definitions of organic, direct trade, and fair trade; the health of female farmers; the relationships among shade, birds, and coffee; roasting as an art and a science; and where profits are made in the commodity chain.

extremely informative, and interesting
Revisado: 01-21-21
This, as you may have noticed is a VERY long book, as someone just starting to take up an interest in specialty coffee I found it to be really interesting. I learned a lot about the plant that coffee comes from and really gained a new appreciation for the beverage and the industry. you probably won't like this book if youre not an overall curious and detail oriented person. There's a mix of science and history in this book. the book is a few years old so some of the info may no longer be relevant. overall though, definitely worth listening through.

Historia
The grid is an accident of history and of culture, in no way intrinsic to how we produce, deliver and consume electrical power. Yet this is the system the United States ended up with, a jerry-built structure now so rickety and near collapse that a strong wind or a hot day can bring it to a grinding halt. The grid is now under threat from a new source: renewable and variable energy, which puts stress on its logics as much as its components.

very informative and detailed.

great prospective on the problems with the world's electrical grids put in terms that even non-technical minds can understand and appreciate. highly recommend listening if you want to understand the big picture surrounding how electricity makes its way to your house, and how renewable energy is as much of a challenge to our energy future as it is a necessity.

Historia
In a world of self-driving cars and big data, smart algorithms and Siri, we know that artificial intelligence is getting smarter every day. Though all these nifty devices and programs might make our lives easier, they're also well on their way to making "good" jobs obsolete. A computer winning Jeopardy might seem like a trivial, if impressive, feat, but the same technology is making paralegals redundant as it undertakes electronic discovery, and is soon to do the same for radiologists.

Very informative, interesting perspectives
Revisado: 06-09-20
I really enjoyed this book. It explains in great detail how automation and AI are replacing human workers, the good and the bad of said replacements and what we can do about it so humanity isn't destroyed. a lot of the information is speculative but based on statistical facts and trends. Whether or not you buy the authors take on his predictions for the future, the book is an interesting listen and certainly worth a buy. Jeff Cummings performance was top notch as well. nicely done.
