Great characters, twisty mystery. Mayne is at the top of his game and I recommend this book and every series he’s written.

So good, but I'm not sure I can finish it

I'm 1/3 of the way into this book, and it's a really interesting story. It's loaded with the dry humor I expect from Delilah Dawson. The thing is, it is. so. real. The insane vulnerability of being female and depending on others is almost a character in itself. And it makes me mad. Mad enough to commit violence, you could say.

In terms of the sound echoing the sense, it's very well crafted. She says rage, and we feel rage (or at least I do). But it might be too real for me. I live some of this, and if anyone in the book gets to go on a retributive spree, I haven't made it to that part yet. I'm trying to hang on until it gets there - I'll update if I can hang in.

A solid entry in an excellent series

Abdul-Jabbar and Waterhouse’s previous works in this series have been very satisfying mysteries in the Conan Doyle style but with little tolerance for the prejudices of the Victorians.

Their characters are so interesting and layered that it’s always a pleasure to read the next adventure.

A female hero coded as autistic. A Sherlock Holmes pastiche. A dash of romance for spice. Absolutely love this series, and it only gets better.

I know "Lady Sherlock" sounds a bit dumb. Don't let it put you off. This was the best book in a series that I have enjoyed immensely, and I cannot wait for the next one

Best Yet in an Amazing Series

I know, "Lady Sherlock" sounds dumb. Just don't look at the cover. She's never called that in the book. This is an entirely brilliant take on the question,"What if Sherlock Holmes was a woman?" Read the first two books in the series - it's not necessary, but you'll thank me.

Charlotte Holmes is for sure coded as a character on the Autism spectrum - she's a badass hero repping all of us ladies on the spectrum and I appreciate the sensitive portrayal. But she isn't what you'd expect, and that's a delicious addition. A touch of romance for spice, but nothing over the top. If you enjoy Holmes pastiches, this one will be an original and interesting addition to your reading material.

This author has completely nailed yet another location and protagonist. The book was interesting and hilarious, just like everything else he writes. Need a break from pandemic gloom? I highly recommend this book.
