Wow. Anyone whose read RAH will totally love this. What a masterful weave of science fiction and story telling with deep and fun character development. Positioning it as the “real basis” for Lazarus Long was just brilliant. Truly a masterpiece.

What can I say about this book? It's one of the most advanced teachings I've recieved. It's not brief at 53 hours, but you get a real sense of the depth and nuance of the teaching of the Tao by hearing Osho speak it himself. Each teaching is interspersed with question period and takes place over 3 month retreat.

This one has definitely leveled me up. It's brought clarity to certain teachings like the heart Sutra. It's helped me understand certain esoteric experiences I've had that no one else has had the context to help explain. These are direct, finite experiences. Imagine my surprise when I hear them in this book!

If you could sum up The Heart of Meditation in three words, what would they be?

Clear Light Mind

What did you like best about this story?

The insights here are probably hard to understand if you're not already far along the path. If you've come to know if a huge commonality between all the practices, shamata, vipassana, zen, prayer, etc, then this may be the book you're looking for. He talks about the substratum of conciousness, clear light awareness. And a mediation called Dzogchen which discards the various mediation objects in favor of pure awareness. No more pushing thoughts away, just let them be and see them as all other manifestations, waves on the surface of awareness.

He pulls from both Buddha and Jesus, without confusing the matter with Buddhism or Christianity. Rather than merely repeating the ancient words he speaks from his own truth and contrasts that with the ancient teachings as reference points. He's given me a missing piece of the puzzle, and has helped bring about amazing clarity and presence. How will you know when you are here, now? When you no longer wonder if you are....

This is the best mediation manual I've read, and I've been through a lot. It gives a nod to tradition but also dives deep into the psychological transformation that happens during meditation and explains the phenomenon that you will experience. it also gives very detailed and explicit instructions for each stage and warns about some traps that exist.

I found in stage 5 a trap that my father had been in for decades, and is now moving past! It's a great read and even better listen since the narrator makes you feel like he's instructing you directly.

The glossary and index make it a great reference manual, so I purchased both printed and audio book. I can't wait to meet and speak to Culadasa, interestingly enough he trained with the same teacher I did when I was a kid, Kama Ananda.

what an amazingly accessible text on the meaning behind Buddha's teachings. the narration is easy to listen to and he peels back the onion layer by layer. I'm inspired to seek more and go deeper.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It realistically could have been about 10% the length without the constant self-appreciating and sales drivel that surrounded the few key concepts. Anyone who creates an acronym for "Wildly Successful Projects" (WSP's) needs a reality check, especially when the acronym isn't used any further within the book.

Has Paid to Think turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but I will be much more cautious before I spend $35 on another "leadership" book

What didn’t you like about Jason Culp’s performance?

The reader was fine however there were sections of the book where there was no audio for 30 - 60 seconds.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

severe disappointment
