Historia
A gripping history of banking and the booms and busts that shaped the world on both sides of the Atlantic, The House of Morgan traces the trajectory of the J. P.Morgan empire from its obscure beginnings in Victorian London to the crash of 1987. Ron Chernow paints a fascinating portrait of the private saga of the Morgans and the rarefied world of the American and British elite in which they moved. Based on extensive interviews and access to the family and business archives, The House of Morgan is an investigative masterpiece.

The nineteenth and early twentieth century bankers were the supreme authority of their respective countries.
Revisado: 03-24-24
I never knew the real Morgan’s other than the average tales of the modern age, denouncing them as greedy ruthless warlords.
The House of Morgan gives a human identity to the almost mythical men of the firm, from Pierpont Morgan single-handedly saving the gold standard and Jack Morgan shepherding the firm through World War One and beyond, the stories of gilded age tycoon’s forays into the world of secret finance are truly fascinating.
The government’s desperate and sometimes hilarious attempts to stymie these aristocrats from amassing to much power and wealth is actually a fair warning for the modern times. As controversial and ruthless as private companies sometimes seem to be it’s still better to allow the markets to dictate the terms rather than the government.

Not about the assassination.
Revisado: 02-09-24
It’s a story of one secret service agent’s life and his years with Mrs. Kennedy. Very vague on the happenings of the assassination. Fairly interesting until he said he put the bullet on the gurney of president Kennedy. What? The single stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Everyone knows you don’t mess with a crime scene. If that’s the secret service I wouldn’t trust them either. Very doubtful that happened or he was definitely in the wrong job. Not a good read if you want new info on the assassination.

In 1986, the SEC and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York began an investigation into Michael Milken, Drexel Burnham Lambert, and its High Yield and Convertible Bond Department, a department Michael created and was head of. Michael was the most successful and innovative financier of his time. Drexel, an upstart investment bank was also the most successful securities firm on Wall Street, thanks to Michael.

The raw power of a district attorney…..
Revisado: 01-10-24
The raw power of a district attorney with political ambitions is quite disgusting. Phenomenal how the “(insider trading)” story of the 80s got so skewed by the media and the government.
