Sally is a sketch writer for a late-night comedy show, “The Night Owls” and after a few heartbreaks, she uses those stories for her sketch writing. Danny, a fellow writer of hers starts dating a celebrity, Annabel, and Sally writes a sketch called the Danny Horst Rule which jokes on average looking/dorky men dating extremely beautiful women and the fact that if the roles were reversed, the situation would be unlikely. Insert Noah Brewster, a pop singer, who is there to host the show and takes an interest in Sally. Of course the Danny Horst rule, or the reverse of that, lives in the back of her head and she does not think that she has a chance with him. She does mess up with Noah and they do not see each other for a while and when COVID starts, they reconnect and spend lots of time together.

To be honest, I tried to read this before and I could not get into it but I think that was due to limited time on my part. So when I picked it up the second time to listen to, I made sure to give it my full attention. There were parts where I was cracking up and I think my favorite parts were the background into The Night Owls show, and the part when Sally and Noah reconnected during COVID. Overall a great read once I got the characters down.

The Lovely’s are experiencing the tragedy that no one ever wants to face. Their youngest son fell out of his bedroom window in the middle of the night and Whitney, his mom, will not speak with anyone. The story goes through the different POV’s of the women of their neighborhood who are analyzing their potential role in the tragedy and just the drama between the women. They realize as the week goes on, that they are more alike and are connected through ways they do not even know yet. There is cheating, sex scandals, not good parenting, and so much more.

The ending had a good twist, but overall the book just felt like a bunch of women who put their needs before their kids and their family. The crazy amount of cheating and ugly actions seemed over the top, but it did make you want to keep reading to know what would happen next. It took a little bit for me to figure out who was who with all the different POV’s but I did enjoy that part once I got straight. I do not have kids of my own so I do not think I should judge others on how they parent, but I hope that when I do have kids that I put them above my needs.

Lottie is strolling through a rich neighborhood looking for a husband when she literally runs in Huxley Cane. They were the perfect grumpy/sunshine romance and the fake dating/engaged trope is always a favorite of mine. I was laughing while listening and couldn’t get enough of Lottie and Huxley. This story definitely included lots of spice.

This enemies to lovers story was soooo good between JP and Kelsey. I liked Kelsey in A Not So Meet Cute so was really glad to read her story. She did struggle with lots of insecurities and JP was willing to let her know how much he was attracted to her. I do think the ”owning her” part was a little weird, but if you like spicy enemies to lovers, this is for you.

Julian and Dahlia grew up as childhood rivals and when Dahlia returns to Lake Wisteria after her broken engagement, Julian plans to stay out of her way. Julian buys up properties and flips them and Dahlia happens to be an interior designer. They agree to work with each other on a house and their melding families keep trying to push them together.

Julian was very swoon worthy and I loved how he took responsibility for his actions for how he pushed Dahlia away in college. He showed Dahlia numerous ways in which he cared and was overall a good communicator. Dahlia was the perfect example of any late 20’s early 30’s girl who struggles with not feeling good enough and just needed reassurance. She did not necessarily give that reassurance to Julian, but she needed it herself. They were just so sweet together once they decided to not hate each other. There is mild spice, but nothing too crazy.

What a good 5 star read to start the year with!! When Clementine’s aunt dies, she inherits her apartment where her aunt had two rules: take your shoes off at the door and don’t fall in love in the apartment. When Clementine comes home one day, she finds a young man inside who claims he is staying there during the summer and that’s when Clementine realizes she has gone back 7 years.

I loved the romance between these two and seeing the timing line up. The NYC background was entertaining and I enjoyed the restaurant storyline through Iwan. Iwan and Clementine had great banter and I loved them together. My favorite moment was when they were meeting for Iwan’s cookbook and Clementine was not sure that he remembered her and then as he was leaving, he called her by his nickname for her, Lemon 😍

Evie Porter has the perfect southern life: the sweet, handsome boyfriend, the beautiful house, a group of friends…but she is hiding a big secret, her name isn’t really Evie Porter. She works for a man that goes by Mr. Smith who she has never met before. He gave her a new identity and she is tasked with getting close to Ryan Sumner, her now boyfriend. This includes knowing all the people in his life, his work, and all about the town he lives in. This is the first client that Evie has actually fallen for and of course it is following her recent mistake so she has to be on her best behavior. When someone new comes into town with Evie’s actual name and identity, she knows she is in trouble and being watched even more carefully. Will she be able to stay ahead of Mr. Smith or will he make sure she has nothing.

This book pulled me in from the first chapter and made me want to keep reading. I love con artist books and I truly thought Ryan was in on it. There were so many twists and pieces that connect to each other that is is kinda hard to keep them connected in your head so the twists hit you even harder. I loved going into this basically blind and then ending will for sure shock you.

Justin is cursed with always dating people right before their find their soul mate. It goes viral on a reddit thread where Emma reaches out to him and says she has a similar situation. She is a travel nurse and when her friend encourages her to take time and actually date Justin during her next assignment, she decides to go for it and they end up living in a cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka. What she assumed would be a quick fling turns into so much more when her toxic mom shows up and she has to support Justin while he takes guardianship of his three siblings.

This book pulled on my heart strings in so many ways! Justin and Emma are so similar with the things they have had to do to take care of those around them. This book really had the best romance story line, the separate family story lines, and the heartache of what Justin had to deal with. They both needed a safe place to fall and they were able to be that for each other.

Best friends brother is the one for me

Lucy has been going to Prince Edward Island for years with her friend, Bridget, but the first year she arrives earlier and has a fling with a local bartender…Little does she know, that bartender happens to be Bridget’s younger brother, Felix. Now, five years later, Lucy is still visiting PEI every summer and having to fight her attraction to Felix. Out of no where, Bridget flees to PEI a week before her wedding which means Lucy has to fly there and figure out what is going on. Will she be able to resist Felix’s advances or will they finally give in to the temptation they know could be right?

I loved Every Summer After so much that I just had high hopes for this one. I love a best friends brother trope and the fact that they truly had no idea who the other was when the first time happened. I do love the look into life on Prince Edward Island with events such as the Oyster Shucking Competition, the beach vibes, and so much more. There is obvious tension and attraction between Lucy and Felix and I loved how Bridget knew for years and didn’t say anything which gave them time to figure out what they really wanted.

I am always a big fan of Meghan’s books because they are funny, spicy, and just the perfect rom com. This book had so much tension built up that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Posey meets Wiley at a bar at one of his away games and has no idea that she is his coaches daughter. Right before things turn spicy, Wiley’s dad walks in and she bails which leaves Posey wanting to know who she is for a while…that is until her dad brings her in to be Posey’s assistant. Coach makes it very clear that she is off limits but the chemistry is there and it is becoming harder and harder for Posey to ignore it. This book had me cracking up and Wiley teasing him after she found out about her dads demand list was really testing him. The audio narrators are phenomenal and if you are a fan of spicy, hockey romances, this book should definitely be on your list.
