Historia
A masterful biography of the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations, Citizen Soldiers provides a compelling account of the extraordinary stories of ordinary men in their fight for democracy. The story opens on June 7, 1944 on the beaches of Normandy and ends at the end of the war on May 7, 1945. Along the way, Ambrose draws on hundreds of interviews and oral histories to recreate the experience of the individuals who fought in the battle.

This is such a vivid description of what war was like in World War II. I’ve listen to several military books over the years and I can’t express enough how important the narrator is. Cotter Smith it brings you into each scene with his perfect delivery.
Stephen Ambrose is truly one of the great authors of our generation. I wish you were still here to tell us more stories of the greatest generation

Historia
Autumn 1944. World War II is nearly over in Europe but is escalating in the Pacific, where American soldiers face an opponent who will go to any length to avoid defeat. The Japanese army follows the samurai code of Bushido, stipulating that surrender is a form of dishonor. Killing the Rising Sun takes listeners to the bloody tropical-island battlefields of Peleliu and Iwo Jima and to the embattled Philippines, where General Douglas MacArthur has made a triumphant return and is plotting a full-scale invasion of Japan.

a fast-paced good summary of the war in Pacific
Revisado: 10-20-16
a pretty predictable formula that we've seen in previous books, but none the less enjoyable to listen to the full story of the war in the Pacific. the topic, of course, cannot be adequately gone into great detail without making it an extremely long audiobook
for most Pacific historians, many of these stories will be very familiar. They have added a few additional details which adds color and context to the overall picture
Books and or stories like this should be mandatory for High School history classes. one fact that came out that I've never heard before is more lives were lost in the city of Tokyo due to conventional bombing then the two atomic bombs-- yet you never hear this datapoint when the anti atomic bomb discussions are being held
the personalities of the various key figures in this war theater nicely covered and added additional background when discussing the strategies and tactics of the armies involved
