This book really touched my heart! It will bring you to tears and put a smile on your face. It will help you to know that there is hope even in the darkest of times. I’m so glad these girl guides didn’t lose their faith in God.

Such a Touching Story
Revisado: 03-28-25
Even though this was a book written about another time and place from my own, I appreciate the telling of this story, and the reality of how awful things can be when times are tough. I’m so thankful there are ways out of dark troubles, and then wonderful endings.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 07-24-24
The stamina of the man in this book is amazing. Although I was never poor for very long, I had a lot of the same family issues, except they were in Michigan and California. I think dysfunction happens everywhere. This book is phenomenal.

I love the faith and resilience, and the well-done story. I’m learning to tolerate and maybe the narrator, but I hate listening to her swallowing all the time! It is hard to listen to, sometimes worse than others.

Historia
Tracie Peterson, from her own Montana home, paints an unforgettable portrait of the rich, rugged landscape of the 1860's West, populated by strong and spirited characters. When Dianne Chadwick urges her family to move west to her uncle's ranch in the Montana Territory, she has no idea that her new life in the rugged frontier - and even within her uncle's home - will not be the idyllic adventure she expects.

Revisado: 01-12-24
This is the second book I have had to endure this narrator. She has terrible mouth sounds throughout the book and it’s terribly annoying and gross.

Too much trashy immoral smut
Revisado: 10-05-19
I love historical fiction, and a thrilling who-done-it. But this novel was so full of smut and sex that it got rather repulsive. I kept forwarding through the trash to get back to the story. I wouldn’t recommend this book.

Historia
Elise Sontag is a typical Iowa 14-year-old in 1943 - aware of the war but distanced from its reach. Then her father, a legal US resident for nearly two decades, is suddenly arrested on suspicion of being a Nazi sympathizer. The family is sent to an internment camp in Texas, where behind the armed guards and barbed wire, Elise feels stripped of everything beloved and familiar, including her own identity. The only thing that makes the camp bearable is meeting fellow internee Mariko Inoue, a Japanese-American teen from Los Angeles.

Fantastic Historical Fiction!
Revisado: 08-25-19
I wasn’t sure I was going to get through the first few chapters, because there were details th get going. But wow. This really opened my eyes to wha really went on in the internment camps, and what fear can cause a people to behave as they wouldn’t normally. This was a great book.
