Historia
Having narrowly averted an (under)world war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans’ voodoo queen just keeps on giving - leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit. Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive.

Less Sex - More Story - Extra Star From Me
Revisado: 05-01-12
Would you try another book from Jeaniene Frost and/or Tavia Gilbert?
Yes. I enjoy Tavia Gilbert's narration. Her accents might not be authentic, but they are consistent and enjoyable. The way she handles dialogue is great, and I enjoy listening to her read.
Would you recommend One Grave at a Time to your friends? Why or why not?
Depends. If they were UF and/or vamp fans, yes, probably, at least more than the earlier books, but mostly, these books are my guilty pleasure. Kind of like audible crack, I want to stop, I know they aren't good for me, but I am completely enthralled and addicted. Someone looking for good clean (not really - they are actually quite naughty) without much brain power, these are a fun ride.
What aspect of Tavia Gilbert’s performance would you have changed?
Her use of accents isn't exactly necessary. But it isn't offensive.
Do you think One Grave at a Time needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I know there are to be a few more books in this series and I will listen to these.

Historia
Barely 18-year-old heroine Valentine Shapiro got a raw deal in the parent lottery. Her father was part incubus demon, and her mother has never forgiven her for that. Life after high school is tough enough without having to go 15 rounds with your inner demon. Thrown out of the house by her mother, Val puts one foot in front of the other and does the only thing that seems to make any sense--she takes aim at the town vampires.

Story Deserved a Better Reader
Revisado: 04-28-12
What did you like best about Bite Me? What did you like least?
I liked the main character a lot. The narrator was completely miscast.
What other book might you compare Bite Me to and why?
Well, obviously, Buffy (though not a book), Hold Me Closer, Necromancer (humor). This is a light, fun, and somewhat forgettable book. But I have picked up the rest of the series and enjoy them.
How could the performance have been better?
The reader sounded too "old" to be Val. The failure of the narration on this one was not her fault - she was miscast.
Do you think Bite Me needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
There are two follow up books, and I think the series just gets better. I really wish they would release them as audiobooks - Fang need a voice!

Historia
In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness.

Long On Atmosphere, Short of Everything Else.
Revisado: 04-28-12
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Length and plot. Too long for the action that takes place.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not the sequel to this book. I really wanted to like this one. But even the moments that were supposed to rip your heart out fell flat to me. I just didn't end up caring about any of the characters.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Vane Millon?
She wouldn't top my list, though in fairness, she didn't have much to work with. Nothing here was going to twist my heart, even if she'd given an Academy Award winning performance.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Nope. If the words weren't interesting, how are the pictures going to be? If you can't draw me a word picture, I am not giving you two hours of my time in the theater to try again. I didn't care about any of the characters enough to want to see a film based on this book.
That said, I am not a huge fan of movies based on books I liked.

If you could sum up The Replacement in three words, what would they be?
Creeptastically Original Book
What did you like best about this story?
The atmosphere.
Which character – as performed by Kevin T. Collins – was your favorite?
Toss up between Mackie's best friend, Roswell and his sister. The portrayal of unconditional love and acceptance was well done and believable.
I liked Tate and the twins as well.
The beings from Mayhem were interesting to me, and I thought Yovanoff did a great job with them.
Probably my least favorite character (and only because I liked everyone else so much - not because I disliked him - there was no character I found distasteful or unlikable) was Mackie himself.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both.
I thought Yovanoff really showed family in a good light. Both of Mackie's families love him, all of the people around him support him, even if they are damaged.
This is an interesting, dark novel, and I enjoyed both the written and narrated version.

I Can't Help Myself - I <3 Morganville.
Revisado: 04-28-12
What made the experience of listening to Last Breath the most enjoyable?
I know the Morganville books are not technically "good" books, but I always enjoy my time in Morganville. The clip along, the characters are enjoyable, the plots decent. Caine has a good niche here, and I'll follow her as long as she wants to take me there.
Most enjoyable to me is probably the quick and fun pace, these stories are an afternoon, a moment, a good meal - a fun night with your friends. They aren't War & Peace, they don't try to be, but they give you a fun ride while you're there.
Would you be willing to try another book from Rachel Caine? Why or why not?
Yes, though I much prefer her YA to she "adult" novels.
Which scene was your favorite?
Any scene with Myrnin, particularly behind the wheel of a car is my favorite.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I always laugh out loud with Caine. Especially when Myrnin or Shane has a particularly wonderful piece of dialogue.

Narrator Makes This One!
Revisado: 04-28-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes. Like most of Clare's books, you won't find much original in the plots, but the characters and dialogue sparkle. They are witty and enjoyable. Listening to her books is always a fun place to escape.
Jennifer Ehle's narration makes this one something special. More than the written words would have been.
Her interpretation of the dialogue is wonderful and inspired. I laughed out loud very often. Her Will and Magnus were spot on. Her Jem sympathetic. Loved listening to her. Listened more than once back to back just because I enjoyed her reading so much. I wish I could read aloud like her.
If you’ve listened to books by Cassandra Clare before, how does this one compare?
I have listened to all of Clare's books. This is my favorite. Not necessarily because of the plot, though I do like the Infernal Devices novels more than I like The Mortal Instruments, but really, it was the narration that nailed this one for me.
What about Jennifer Ehle’s performance did you like?
Everything.
Was Clockwork Angel worth the listening time?
Yes, yes, yes.
Any additional comments?
If you enjoy UF or Steampunk, I think it one is worth your time. It clips along and the characters are a lot of fun. There is nothing new here in terms of completely original plot or characters, but still a very fun ride.

Third Book Killed The Series
Revisado: 04-28-12
What would have made Bloodrose: A Nightshade Novel better?
A better handling of major plot points. A well thought out plot progress. Not relying on cop outs to tell the story. Strong characters make strong choices, and choices cost. Cremer didn't allow her characters to make choices in this novel. Everything happened TO them.
Has Bloodrose: A Nightshade Novel turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. Of course not. I am a UF/YA fanatic, I write it, I read it, it would take much more than a few poorly made choices to make me turn my back. I will probably not even stop reading Cremer, who I liked before this novel, but it will take me a while to trust again. Sigh. I've been hurt badly in this relationship - I gave my trust, my faith, my love...
;-)
What three words best describe Rebecca Lowman’s performance?
Decent. Competent. Uninspired.
What character would you cut from Bloodrose: A Nightshade Novel?
Shay - Shay SHAY. Ugh. Hated him from the beginning. But was willing to deal with him. This book turned him into a whiney twit with an overbearing overprotective misogynistic streak a mile wide. I'd have punched him in the face and bitten him on the butt if I'd been a character in Bloodrose.

That's All I Can Stand & I Can't Stands No More!
Revisado: 04-27-12
What disappointed you about Burned?
Absolutely everything. The plot was non-existent, repetitive and boring. The narration was terrible and in places racist. The characters were horrid. The product placement irritating. The writing juvenile and obnoxious, the dialogue unrealistic.
What was most disappointing about P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast ’s story?
Wow. I have to choose one? Okay - the most disappointing thing about the story is that there wasn't one.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator could have decided not to use the most racist "voice" ever for the African American character. That would have gone a long way toward making this one merely awful instead of just offensive.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger. Lots of Anger. I wasn't disappointed, I knew it wouldn't be good, I had been thinking about giving up on the series for a couple of the last installments - this one sealed the deal. UGH! It was TERRIBLE.
Any additional comments?
Nope. Avoid it. Don't waste a credit or your cash. Try a Morganville Vampires novel if you want good, silly, vampire fun.

If It Weren't For You Meddling Kids!
Revisado: 04-27-12
Where does Moon Called rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I listen to a LOT of audiobooks, and usually the books I choose to listen to instead of read, are on the more soap opera-y/series end of the spectrum. That said, Moon Called was one of the better books I've listened to in its genre.
Would you recommend Moon Called to your friends? Why or why not?
Sure, I'd recommend it, as long as the listener is an Urban Fantasy fan. Within its genre, it is a good read. Strong characters, decent plot, and a lead you can root for.
Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't believe I have listened to her before. She did a good job.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would have listened to it in one sitting, if I'd had the opportunity. The story was engaging enough for that.
Any additional comments?
I didn't like the "Scooby Doo" wrap up ending that took up about the last 15 minutes of this one. If an author has to spend a certain amount of the book explaining the plot and what happened, and how it happened - they didn't do a good enough job telling the tale along the way, or they aren't confident that they did.
I loved Mercy. I thought most of the writing was intelligent and witty. I found Adam an appealing love interest, and his daughter, Jessie was a great addition. The characters really saved this one for me.
I will listen to others in this series.
