In the crypt-like depths of Ochre Mountain, an evil vampire rises from a slumber of centuries. Eager to pay homage to the Dark Lord, he unleashes a legion of zombies to conquer the land of the living, and to at least breach the boundary of the Dark Divide.

Kazi barely survives the seemingly random attacks of mercenaries and crystal-enhanced animals that destroy his friends, village, and family. As he tries to recover from horrendous losses and attempts to lead a normal life, the cosmic pushes events that pit him directly against Tyrus and the Temple of Kaal. Caught in the middle, between unknown enemies, and the cosmic desire to balance the corruption of evolution, Kazi must fight to discover the nature of his foes and the demands of his destiny.
