Historia
If You Can Keep It is at once a thrilling review of America's uniqueness, and a sobering reminder that America's greatness cannot continue unless we truly understand what our founding fathers meant for us to be. The book includes a stirring call-to-action for every American to understand the ideals behind the "noble experiment in ordered liberty" that is America. It also paints a vivid picture of the tremendous fragility of that experiment and explains why that fragility has been dangerously forgotten.

Perfect listen on Liberty
Revisado: 11-03-23
I have loved Eric Metaxas’s writing for a long while now, and this read was excellent. So important to understand the basis and framing of our constitutional republic and the reasons why it is so fragile and so necessary to defend and preserve!

Historia
This is Kazuo Ishiguro's profoundly compelling portrait of a butler named Stevens. Stevens, at the end of three decades of service at Darlington Hall, spending a day on a country drive, embarks as well on a journey through the past in an effort to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving the "great gentleman," Lord Darlington. But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness," and much graver doubts about the nature of his own life.

Historia
Daisy Wilder prefers the company of horses to people, bare feet and salt water to high heels and society parties. Then, in the dizzying aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Daisy enlists in a top secret program, replacing male soldiers in a war zone for the first time. Under fear of imminent invasion, the WARDs guide pilots into blacked-out airstrips and track unidentified planes across Pacific skies. But not everyone thinks the women are up to the job, and the new recruits must rise above and work side by side despite the resistance and heartache they meet along the way.

Appreciated this
Revisado: 03-08-22
I was an intelligence professional in the US Navy and for part of that time, stationed on Oahu. While I liked the story, I also appreciated getting a bit of the humanity behind my “predecessors” that makes them a bit more real. I also appreciated hearing about the places around the island that I was familiar with.

I read this book in grade school a few decades ago and this was just as cute as I recall. Reader wasn’t my favorite, but he didn’t have any particular faults.

Historia
Seven years after her husband's death - six since she read his final letter - Holly Kennedy has moved on with her life. When Holly's sister asks her to tell the story of the "PS, I Love You" letters on her podcast - to revisit the messages Gerry wrote before his death to read after his passing - she does so reluctantly, not wanting to reopen old wounds. But after the episode airs, people start reaching out to Holly, and they all have one thing in common: they're terminally ill and want to leave their own missives behind for loved ones.

Just wow....
Revisado: 10-19-20
This story is so well crafted. She managed to take me from bawling to belly laugh in the same way it happens when family and friends are grieving together over a loved one (or at least the way my family has). Best of all is the peppering of profundity with regard to inward and outward focus that are required of a healthy mourning process. It shows how that process is not linear, is not quick, and is different for every person. As Holly learns to realize that she doesn’t own a copyright on grief, she becomes a more insightful, compassionate, and wise woman, who then grows to passing that on to others. May we all allow the blessing of grief grow us into equally giving and compassionate people.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

We saw the film a couple years ago and loved it. I had wanted to read the book ever since and thought recently to try it this way. It’s exceptional. I love this story so much!
From Death narrating, the colorful descriptions, the raw but classy composure of the story, to the way Zusak reminds us that not all Germans were Nazis and followers of Hitler, this story is endearing on so many levels.

Good, but predictable
Revisado: 05-04-18
This is the first audio I’ve listened to but have read all of Brown’s other books. While he tells an excellent story, he’s becoming quite predictable and formulaic. Langdon always finds himself at a high-profile event where something tragic happens. He then has to flee for his life in a manner that pairs him with a beautiful woman, and the two then spend the rest of the story solving a puzzle that will save the world. Once all is well, there’s always the most unlikely character that turns out to be the twist in the whole thing you never saw coming.
And, all that said, I’ll probably read his next book, knowing the above, but enjoying it anyway! It’s like going to certain higher-end chain restaurants; the food is good, but you know what to expect.
