Historia
Just hours after humans are born, the gods take what little power we have. In return, they protect our borders from the vicious, merciless fae. The humans who manage to keep their power are known as the corrupt. And they are burned. When my forbidden power is discovered, I’m forced to flee my tiny village and the life I adore. To survive, I make a desperate bargain with the mercenary who abandoned me at my weakest moment. Our deal is simple: I’ll help him and his mysterious friends sneak into the city, and he’ll help me learn to wield the strange, dark power I’ve always kept hidden.

Can‘t get through it
Revisado: 04-02-25
The heroine is just too annoying and the storybuilding was unconvincing for me. I like Young adult as genre - but I like it well written.

Can‘t get into the story
Revisado: 10-23-24
I gave it a few hours because I know that openings to a saga can be challenging. Still, it‘s so unbelievable that I‘m returning it. I don‘t like the main character, the book is difficult to follow, I found parts of the writing tedious… overall, I don‘t share other reviewers‘ enthousiasm at all.

A very well narrated good story with issues
Revisado: 03-17-24
I read all three books - first 2 were included in Audible Plus and bought the book 3 to finish the series. I enjoyed the storyline and the narrator made the book stronger than it is in its own. Good narration!!!
The storyline is good, YA with sex scenes - which were not well balanced in quantity. For me, it would have been better with less. Subject of rape and stalking is explored pretty deeply, it deserves a fair warning. I feel the author did well here. For me, the most annoying part was the character development of the main female character. I found her an idiot on too many occasions. She acts as a teenager too often for me to buy into it consistently, it grated at times.

Rereading again. Still wonderful.
Revisado: 03-08-22
I needed this after the first 2 episodes of the series. I hated what they did to the story so I reread the book to check if it was just my nostalgia... Nope, the story in the book is just better'. And way less gloomy to start with. I like it way better even if miss Pike is great in her role.

Historia
Nobody needs telling that there isn't enough time. We're obsessed by our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, the struggle against distraction and the sense that our attention spans are shrivelling. Yet we rarely make the conscious connection that these problems only trouble us in the first place, thanks to the ultimate time-management problem: the challenge of how best to use our 4,000 weeks. Four Thousand Weeks is an uplifting, engrossing and deeply realistic exploration of this problem.

An absolute must read for 2022.
Revisado: 01-10-22
Easy and engaging style, well narrated.
The author proposes that how we think about time and consequently use our time, suffer from some misconceptions that truly get us nowhere happy or fulfilled. And as the misconceptions are deeply embedded in the society, it's pretty difficult to figure them out on your own.
It's an eye opener. Maybe because I'm 40, what he says resonates deeply with what I've been thinking, experiencing and trying to change. It might be different for someone in their 20s- but ach, all the frustration I might have avoided in the 1st place if I had read this 15 years ago.
The concepts are philosophical but some practical ideas are there too. The author doesn't come up with a ready to go solution, but you'd be silly to expect that. A different way of looking at things and some practical tips to get you started will take you a long way if you're willing. That's what the book offers. The rest of the process is up to you.

I just hated the narration
Revisado: 01-29-21
Sorry, i had to abort at chapter 2. I absolutely hated the narration and I did not particulary like the characters, so there was no reason to continue.
It was included in my audible membership but this seemed way below Julia London’s usual quality.

Wonderful trilogy, very satisfying read
Revisado: 05-16-20
Consistently great narration by mister Lee, who always exceeds my expectations.
Perfect editing too. Anybody who listens to books a lot knows how important that is to the overall enjoyment. Well, these guys did the job well.
That was many hour of real fun. Bargain really, what a value for just a credit per sooo many hours of well built and well presented science fiction.
I very warmly recommend the series ( and most what Peter F Hamilton writes anyways).

A great series that does not receive enough attention
Revisado: 03-03-19
I hear it’s self published, which would explain.
The narration is wonderful. The whole series are being done by John Lee and he’s soooo the right man to do this- I really enjoy his contribution.
Great worldbuilding, very good story line, interaction of magics, politics, culture and economy is really interesting.
The humor is a great added bonus.
And yes, maybe some additional editing here and there would be beneficial - but honestly, there is nothing bothersome in there.
Mr Mancourt experiments some with storylines - most of the experiments work really, really wel, some less (Knight Magae novella was a bit less, but not completely without credit).
There are series with ravibg reviews out there that I actually can’t bear listening to - poor narration, poor story, worse characters - this series deserves way more credit than it gets.
I warmly recommend.

Things were starting to look up for Magelord Minalan the Spellmonger: The magic mountain in his domain not only made him a wealthy man and the most powerful mage in history, it also produced a lode of magical gemstones with unique properties - properties the Alka Alon, the masters of magic on Callidore, are fascinated by. When Minalan gets his chance to trade some of his magic rocks for irionite, he finds himself in a position to raise hundreds more magi with the stones...making them High Magi.
