Historia
In the 1800s, a sailing ship crashes off the coast of Norway. In the 1900s, a Zepellin explores an icy canyon in Antarctica. In the far future, a spaceship sets out for an alien artifact. Each excursion goes horribly wrong. And on every journey, Dr. Silas Coade is the physician, but only Silas seems to realize that these events keep repeating themselves. And it's up to him to figure out why and how. And how to stop it all from happening again.

An compelling yet confusing yarn
Revisado: 02-09-24
Even after reading the synopsis I was initially a bit confused as the story folded back on itself, presenting as a multilayered dream. But sticking with it is certainly worth while. Reynolds resolves the confusion by the end. Personally I do like the bitter sweet ending for the POV character. Overall a great book that I’d recommend.

Pop culture references galore
Revisado: 11-13-23
This series is chock full of pop culture references, but it was at some point during this book that I realized something. Ryan Rimmel must be a super nerd, if not the king of them. There’s scarcely a pop culture touchstone that doesn’t get a shoutout no matter how obscure. Disney, Star Trek, Star Wars, even Pitch Meeting, and everything in between.

Historia
After dying and being reborn into a world that's built like a video game, Jim has found himself stuck in a very old-world style new-player zone for low-level adventurers. Unfortunately, the zone fell out of use centuries ago, and no one told the monsters they were supposed to take it easy on the Noobs. Even worse, the only new player around is Jim. Jim has been given an opportunity, and he'll do his best to take advantage of it.

Highly enjoyable with a fun premise
Revisado: 10-26-23
I greatly appreciate the novel approach to a LitRPG. Plenty of humor as I listen to the protagonist flail about with complete ignorance of how the world in which he finds himself works. Performance and story are great. The only part I could do with more than a bit less is stopping the story at least once per chapter to fully go through Jim’s stats. I understand it’s part of RPG’s but it does tend to bring the plot progression to a screeching halt.

Historia
Former war correspondent Lukas Landon is alone, trapped under 150-feet of water in an overturned shrimp trawler at the bottom of the ocean. The only thing keeping him alive is an air bubble in the ship’s bow. But the water level is rising, and time is running out. Landon doesn’t know if he will survive . . . or if he even deserves to.

An excellent nonlinear story
Revisado: 10-26-23
The synopsis did not disappoint. I was gripped by the tale from beginning to end. To be honest careful, attention to the details of the story each time the tale jumps to the past will help you get a pretty good idea of what Landon is hiding before it’s fully revealed, but not to the point of spoiling the emotional gut punch. I could barely stop listening as the tale unfolded especially as Landon struggles to survive. Will he survive? Will he come to terms with his secret? You’ll have to listen for yourself and see.

A fun yet cliche adventure
Revisado: 10-04-23
After having listened to KPS a while ago and reading the synopsis which made this one sound like another quirky adventure I was intrigued. I’m not saying it’s a bad story, quite the opposite, just a bit too cliche for my taste. Especially as it approaches the climax. I do appreciate the element of the nice guy not finishing last but many of the story beats can be seen coming a mile away. Wheaton’s performance is better than other books he’s narrated. He goes to the effort of giving more characters their own voice as he reads, unlike other books he’s read. Overall, just what I’d expected. A fun, off the wall adventure. I’d like to see what comes out of Scalzi’s mind next.
