Painful and beautiful
Revisado: 06-02-22
This is a well written story, it's a story of suffering, pain and the truth of WW2 and the resistance in Italy
I found the story very depressing and sad at times, but I was also very much interested in the characters and their lives and wanted to come back to the book
The characters are well developed and the descriptions are vivid and makes you feel you are there

Repetitive and Boring, way too drawn out
Revisado: 09-13-19
I bought this book because I had heard a lot of good reviews of the musical that's based on this book, however, the book is not interesting at all
The book is a list of events, people and their distress and relationship to 9/11
It's also really drawn out, and it could have been made a lot shorter and that might have made it more interesting
Half way through the book, I got bored and lost interest
I got tired of listening to how many times people called their loved ones in NYC, or how some people were not moving from the shelter cause they were waiting for news from their son or daughter
What was interesting at the beginning, became repetitive and boring half way through the book

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Not much for Canadians
I feel Canadians try to get out in winter a lot more than what she mentions in the book about Americans, we go skiing, skating, hiking and I have seen kids outside playing even when it's way below freezing
also I don't have a kid and I didn't find much benefit in the book

Weak
Revisado: 08-09-18
I started this book on a 2 hour road trip and that was the only reason I decided to finish it, I was already 2 hours in, otherwise I would have returned it.
The character development is very weak, until the end of the book, I hardly cared about any of the characters
The plot is very predictable, the author has tried to create a book similar to Hunger Games, but has failed.
Overall I don't think this is worth 1 credit
One of the narrators seems to be in constant distress and that's the only emotion she can have

Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times best seller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny, a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

Don't hesitate, go ahead and buy this book
Revisado: 02-04-18
I was hesitant if I should get this book or not, this is the third book by Neil Gaiman that I read after "the graveyard book" and "Neverwhere"
I LOVED " The graveyard book",I didn't find myself living "Neverwhere" as much though
I was Aldo hesitant cause Neil Gaiman is not narrating the book
But let me tell you, the book is AMAZING, I loved it as much as "The graveyard book" and the narrator is spectacular
He truly did the book justice

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Learnt a lot
Revisado: 01-12-18
After reading the book "Hygge" I was fascinated by Danish lifestyle, so I decided to listen to this book to learn more about Danish life.
What I found interesting was that there are a lot of similarities between the Danish life and Canadian life
This book is organized by months and she talks about all the research she does every month to learn more and more about the Danish lifestyle and culture.
If you like researched information presented to you mixed with her life story, I think you would enjoy this book
I really enjoyed it and of course learnt a lot, but after reading it, I think I live in the best country in the world (Canada)
