Historia
After a disastrous relationship effectively torches her personal and professional life in Sydney, Annabelle is back in Brisbane. She’s about to start her dream job launching and curating a First Nations gallery in the city, and this time, nothing is getting in the way of her important work. Certainly not romance. Matters of the heart have always turned out to be a surefire way to make Annabelle run for the hills – literally. Everything is going to plan until a birthday trip to the rodeo with her tiddas brings Annabelle up close and very personal with Dusty Davies, bona fide cowboy.

Great way to begin to understand first people’s culture through a fun chic lit/choc lit story. Listen to Heiss’s TedX talk to understand where this amazing author/scholar is coming from. Please record more of her works and share with an international audience!

A book everyone who has lost someone should read

Locke generously shared her memories (and her recipes) in this story of loss and healing, beautifully narrated, the Italian tripping off her tongue and seasoning the story with love. Thank you!

Historia
Like many well-to-do Upper East Siders over the age of 65, esteemed art appraiser Percival Skinner had planned to spend his retirement living off his savings. But a market correction has left him living below his prior means. One day he’s visited by a dapper fixer in search of a famous work by a Renaissance master. Skinner knows the work well: The original was owned by his ancestor, and was passed down through his family over the generations. If, as an intermediary, he can coordinate a sale, a small fortune awaits. Problem is, he might not be the only one on the make.

What a combination of erudite humor by Amor Towles, consummate narration by John Lithgow and Audible magic (thank you, Don Katz). A lovely listen.

Important story
Revisado: 10-19-19
Grisham has revived himself after the last disappointing work. The Guardians is a well-paced tale, with his hallmark narrative excitement. More
To the point one cares about the characters (one plot element based on a real-life story you May recognize, hard as it is to believe). I always enjoy Grisham when he’s on his truth and justice
Soapbox. Great narration. Will keep you involved!

Historia
A traveller on a train returning to London smells the burn of brakes as it hisses to a stop in the middle of the countryside. He sees a white-faced woman leap from the train and race to the aid of a sheep stranded on its back, unable to rise, in a field. Righting it, she turns, and he sees her face is full of tragedy. Considering tragedies of his own, he does not intrude, but the image lodges in his mind: a strange but familiar despair, unable, despite itself

No one can beat Mary Wesley for a post-war explosion of options, moral and otherwise. Was UK life really like this during and following WWII? Irreverent, unorthodox, yes, but hilarious and perfectly narrated. Mary Wesley is truly worth a try -- quite a discovery if you find you like her! #Quirky #WWII

Historia
Berlin, 1948. Almost four years after the war's end, the city is still in ruins, a physical wasteland and a political symbol about to rupture. In the West a defiant, blockaded city is barely surviving on airlifted supplies; in the East the heady early days of political reconstruction are being undermined by the murky compromises of the Cold War. Espionage, like the black market, is a fact of life.

Dumb vampire story, but well meant
Revisado: 02-22-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Don't get it, guess the vampire enthusiasts might like, although I don't know enough to determine where this fits in their pantheon of good vs. so-so reads/listens. Some of the details seemed overly-written and gratuituous. But clearly the author is smart and has potential, if she could but wrench herself out of the obvious. Sadly, narrator made the obvious tiresomely more obvious, with enough sarcasm added to the many asides to last a lifetime. I've heard her do much much better. I know I should not pan, given this was my free V-day present from audible.com. I ordered it over other choices with open mind/intent of truly trying to like it, but man, even for a devout (generally literary, but still) fiction reader, what's the deal with this genre? Leaves me cold (pun intended).
What could Molly Harper have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Stop over-writing
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sophie Eastlake?
Someone more heartfelt and less sarcastic
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Dumbstruck. Why is this a popular genre? So obvious, so silly, characters so pat.

If you could sum up This World We Live In in three words, what would they be?
Hopeful but . . .
What does Emily Bauer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Inflections were amazing. Bauer really acted out the story and conveyed the humor as well as the horror.

Historia
In 1665, a young man from Martha's Vineyard became the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College. Upon this slender factual scaffold, Brooks has created a luminous tale of love and faith, magic and adventure. The narrator of Caleb's Crossing is Bethia Mayfield, growing up in the tiny settlement of Great Harbor amid a small band of pioneers and Puritans. Restless and curious, she yearns after an education that is closed to her by her sex....

Another good entry into fiction!
Revisado: 05-31-11
I find these historical analyses (through fiction) of our complicated history fascinating and helpful even 400 years later. An honest story, of course with an improbable "21st-century" heroine but I'll accept that as long as the details of her conceivable 17th-century life and sensibilities can somewhat match her 21st-century intuition.
