A beautiful story wonderfully told
Revisado: 11-14-24
I was late to Sophie’s story on social media but this book is an honest and reflective look back at a remarkable year and journey. Any dog lover will enjoy it immensely.

Historia
Rarely has an Evangelical upbringing been depicted with the relentless honesty, wide-ranging empathy, and Superbad-meets-Siddhartha playfulness of USA Today best-seller HELL IS A WORLD WITHOUT YOU. During the time of Pizza Hut buffets, 9/11, and all-night Mario Kart parties, a grieving teenager faces a mortal crossroads: fire-and-brimstone certainty vs. forbidden love. And whether or not you’ve ever begged God to delay the Rapture (so you could have time to lose your virginity), that kid’s story is about you.

Heartfelt, humanizing, humorous
Revisado: 08-29-24
Not a world I knew anything about so not exactly the target audience but enjoyed it thoroughly and did a great job making real people out of what usually appear as caricatures from the outside.

Remarkable

Great performance of an excellent story. A bit meandering in the middle but the beginning and ending make up for it.

Historia
Niall Harbison is a dog hero based in Thailand. He spends his days feeding, caring for and rescuing the many street dogs he comes across. With every rescue there’s a story. Like the sweet gentle McMuffin who was found with many tumours and hours from death, only to be nursed back to health. She now lives with Niall and is a popular member of the pack. Then there is King Whacker – who escaped a vicious attack and is now ruling the nest living up to his name as the king of the all good dogs. And who could resist the puppy eyes of little Rodney.

A touching and inspirational story that is well-told by the man himself. I never leave reviews but this was a special experience. If you’re the sort of person that is even aware of this book then do yourself a favor and give it a listen.

Sequel that justifies its existence
Revisado: 01-07-23
Loved the movie but was skeptical it needed a sequel and that a novel could possibly work. Happy to have been wrong on all accounts as this was one of the better listening experiences I’ve had on Audible. The narrator does take getting used to but grew on me and fits the attitude and writing style perfectly, though I agree with the suggestion of using a slightly faster speed of 1.1. Otherwise as exciting as books get and it impressively juggles the multiple timelines and characters. Hope there’s a Heat 3 on the way.
