Yuck. I could not abide the bravado and bull in this ridiculous story. Returned after two tortuous listening hours and was dismayed to see more titles along the same line. Making money off the Outlander franchise.

I saw Michael Crichton’s wife on tv talking about how sublime it was to James Patterson finish the manuscript after her husband passed. Sadly, it falls short of meeting any grand expectations. It’s predictable, full of bland dialog with mediocre character development. I did appreciate the liberal use of Hawaiian lingo.

If you are open to a simple but elegant acceptance of the tenets of major religions and the spiritual oneness of humanity, then you will love this book. I am and I did.

Cloying

She should have titled this “My Precious Life.” On and on, in every essay, inescapable reference to her privileged, Catholic school childhood; her carefree, whimsical travels; her beautiful, adoring mother; the presence and support of educated, wealthy men; her fascinating, loyal friends. Her skillful retelling of the quotidian still smacks of an uppity worldview.

Flawed, simplistic

The plot is entirely predictable and the characterization is flawed. The language is simple and frankly the most basic storytelling. The narrator uses several different voices but mostly they are annoying. I did listen to the entire thing and it was moderately enjoyable.

Tidbits of interesting narrative

If you tend to like academics or word study, you might find this book worthwhile. The narrator’s attempts to learn Greek through story and immersion are retold, with a few comical anecdotes. Self-narration does not help rating as her voice is not typical for an audible reader.
