It’s spring and Three Pines is reemerging after the harsh winter. But not everything buried should come alive again. Not everything lying dormant should reemerge. But something has. As the villagers prepare for a special celebration, Armand Gamache and Jean-Guy Beauvoir find themselves increasingly worried. A young man and woman have reappeared in the Sûreté du Québec investigators’ lives after many years. The two were young children when their troubled mother was murdered, leaving them damaged, shattered. Now they’ve arrived in the village of Three Pines. But to what end?

Fascinating, terrifying, compelling
Revisado: 02-02-19
I didn’t know what to expect when I first started listening, given I’m not really a sci- fi reader. The story was so compelling, I could not stop listening or thinking about the story line. Truly scary to contemplate yet such a magnetic pull to know how it all ends.

I was captivated by Rachel Kadish’s book from the first chapter. Beautifully written and Tory of such Seth and rich detail, I felt every emotion through my listening experience. If you select one book to listen to this year, this is the one. My compliments to Corrie James for your interpretation. You did justice to the Rachel’s words.

The narrator captures the nuance of each personality in such a creative way. This is a heartfelt story of lives lived, damaged and the friendships that help us move forward. Told through a child's eyes, this must hear story, captured me from beginning to end.

Revisado: 10-31-16
This first person story was beautifully played by Linda Lavin spanning history from the early 1900's to 1985. Through her life she illustrated the life of early immigrants, the issues of assimilation, the beauty and restriction of faith, love and resilience. A charming and rich story.
