Nesta is so flawed. It’s refreshing to see a story about a woman finding her power through so much trauma and actually facing it. Not just finding a man and suddenly believing in herself. She struggles hard and it is a beautiful mess.

Great narration and great prose but…

Story is rough. The foundational world building concept was great but the overall 3-book arc for the character development is lackluster and predictable. Writing is often beautifully poetic but the story is predictable, cliche and just a volley of “he love me, he love me not.”

Very intrigued

The narration is great which is important because this book reads like a screenplay. There is a lot of dialogue and long conversations that flesh out really great character dynamics without necessarily moving things along quickly. This book is broken into 2 parts but it’s really 2 books in one. Part 1 is from the girl’s perspective, part 2 is the same timeline but the guy’s perspective. Being that the 2 characters are from totally different worlds, there’s a lot to tell on each side. Great story and I sense a lot of great stuff coming from this series.

Decent LitRPG

Great idea for a LitRPG but the real crux of the story is the impact on the real world and that is completely ignored in this book. When I play DnD, character creation can drag on sooooo long and that’s kind of what this game felt like. It’s an extended character creation and tutorial of a game whose story isn’t going to come for another 15 hours. Unfortunately, I am more frustrated than invested to continue. Great world building (I would totally play the game) but too much for a story.

Great story

A great feel good story with a fascinating villain. I really enjoyed the characters and am looking forward to the other books in this trilogy. Could totally see this being a Netflix series.

Dads love it too

My husband feels dads are underrepresented in the parenting blog community. I look at tons of Instagram profiles showing toddler foods or advice on tantrums and he wants nothing to do with it. Dads get the short end of the stick. Then I started following Clint and the funny memes, quotes and content started appealing to him. I got the audio book so we could listen together and it was a HUGE success. I’ve never seen him laugh so hard. The unspoken husband/wife battle about keeping score and who changes the next diaper particularly resonated with him...so much that he laughed so loud and woke up the sleeping baby in the car. There’s a point to be made here but I’ll let that one go and instead say that this book is awesome. Get it, read it, listen to it, and take a breath knowing you’re not alone.
