Historia
Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

The best. Short, sweet, bitter brave.

Almost a cliché of a western, but done too well to touch on the edge of greatness.

Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

The beginning is a little slow, but stay with it. Maybe I’m a sucker for happy endings.
Revisado: 06-05-24
The story started a little slow. But maybe it. Is the best Kristen Hannah book I’ve read. I guess it’s a test of whether you’re a romantic or not. If you’re not a romantic, maybe you won’t like it so much. but if the last couple of chapters bring tears to your eyes, then you’re romantic.

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

Historia
With more than two million copies of her novels sold, New York Times best-selling author Geraldine Brooks has achieved both popular and critical acclaim. Now, Brooks takes on one of literature's richest and most enigmatic figures: a man who shimmers between history and legend. Peeling away the myth to bring David to life in Second Iron Age Israel, Brooks traces the arc of his journey from obscurity to fame, from shepherd to soldier, from hero to traitor, from beloved king to murderous despot and into his remorseful and diminished dotage.

Why not just read the old testament?
Revisado: 07-15-23
Maybe in the printed addition there was an afterward that explained what we really know about David and what was made up. Was everything not explicitly in the Bible made up? I found the book with just one tone, that was would I imagined an expanded version of the old testament might be. For example, were the battles true battles or just what the author imagined? I don’t feel I know anymore about the life and Times of David then before I read the book.

Historia
At the height of WWII, five idealistic young Americans receive a mysterious letter from the OSS, asking them if they are willing to fight for their country. The men and women from very different backgrounds - a Texan athlete with German roots, an upper-crust son of a French mother and a wealthy businessman, a dirt-poor Midwestern fly fisherman, an orphaned fashion designer, and a ravishingly beautiful female fencer - all answer the call of duty, but each for a secret reason of his or her own. They bond immediately, in a group code-named Dragonfly.

I wish I could give the performance six stars, the production
Revisado: 06-01-23
I’m sort of of two minds about the story, compared to other war spy stories. In a way this is five novels in one. At times therefore it’s a little bit complicated. But the author knew how to pull at my heart strings, even if parts of the novel were overly complicated. The production was magnificent. Finally a novel that was “produced“ The way an audible novel should be.

This is the best of the series
Revisado: 05-21-23
I thought this was the best of the Three Pine series. Louise Penny seems to have grabbed Hold of the murder mystery genre and taking it to new heights. Like the villain of the story. .John Fleming, Penny knows how to get into your mind. There are bits of the background of this novel in at least three other “Three Pines“ stories. I’d have to read all 18 novels again to understand exactly how Penny has messed with my mind.

The publisher makes it impossible to give this a one star review
Revisado: 04-03-23
I wanted to give another book and one star review, but the publisher made it impossible by a stupid trick of software. Nothing can be trusted on these reviews. I know that little of this will be PackIncluded in the review. But I tried. Jessica Watson’s book is OK but other books I tried to give a one star review and was prevented so do you trust any of the reviews? If I don’t give it a two star review then it’s called in the Air R. Do you trust any of this?

I should’ve read this with my eyes, Audiobook was not the right format
Revisado: 11-13-22
This would’ve been a much better book for me if I had read it with my eyes instead of an audiobook. There was too much “Twitter speak“. Twittle@blah@tee@da@ more-blah@ etc… I could never figure out if any of that was important. If I read this book with my eyes, I think I would’ve just skipped over those bits. It wasn’t that the narrator was bad. I just don’t think it should’ve been an audiobook. maybe I missed the hints, but it seems they just pick the least likely character as the murderer. I love the other Cormoran Strike books. But this story just seemed arbitrary. I couldn’t tell you why the Cambridge scientist was killed. Or a dozen other things that happened in the book. I’m sure there’s something that connected all the dots, but I couldn’t figure it out.

It’s easy to be yourself when who and what you are is in vogue. But growing up Black and gay in America has never been easy. Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

Performance over the top?
Revisado: 08-28-22
There were a few things that distracted me from this book. I think I would’ve liked it much better had I read it, instead of Billy porters narration. It was as if everything was read “over the top“. I know his first training is in the theater and you have to projected that last seat but for the near ration of a story there has to be quiet times.
I really liked the last two chapters. However the first 16 or so chapters he always had a beef. Yes, the fact that he is black and gay made it hard for him to break through. In another era or another country he might’ve been killed for being gay. But in the first 16 chapters of the book, there was no humility at all. We all have self doubts. Maybe you did a presentation and you thought the first part was great but you forgot lines in the second part. Or a slide had the spelling sign Were you painted a picture, and you thought it had too much red in it. Billy porters answer to everything seem to be he was being discriminated against. Probably true. But we all have self doubts and accept in discussion of sex, and his failure to have intimacy with other black men, there are no self doubts.I probably miss read a lot of the book so if this is misleading, I express my own self doubts and regrets.
