Historia
Hildy Halverson, a genius in math and science, is pushed by her parents to step into a male-dominated field and change the world for women. But Hildy, enamored of the scientific force of the human body, and her own body's ability to create and sustain life, decides to go against contemporary expectations. She marries young and raises a houseful of kids. Hildy wants her children to choose their own life paths. As each child is born, she tells them, "You can be whatever you want to be, and whatever you want to be will be great."

A really great listen!
Revisado: 10-02-24
The plot of this book is certainly not the usual plot written today. It is, instead, a delightful departure from the usual "how to make it as a woman in men's fields". Hildy is obviously brilliant and could do whatever she wants with her life. Instead, she chooses motherhood. The development of the characters including the children is part of what makes this book compelling, but the narration brings the entire story to life. The narrator seems to have a talent for giving each character a unique voice which makes it clear who is speaking and eliminates the confusion that can occur. I highly recommend this book to be listened to, not read, since the narration adds so much to the story.

Good story, BAD engineering!
Revisado: 07-07-21
Like many people, we listen to most audiobooks while in the car.. We recently took a lengthy road trip and listened to several books. This one stood out, not because of its story or performance, but because of the terrible engineering. There was so much variance in the volume that we either totally lost the many sotto voce passages or were deafened by the high volume passages. It was so annoying I’m a bit surprised we persevered. I think the many negative reviews are understandable, coming as they seem to be from avid Agatha Christie afficionados. But as a mystery, it isn’t bad and, in my opinion, doesn’t deserve such scathing reviews. Harper Studios needs to look at their engineering. It isn’t doing the author or narrator any favors.

Historia
Do you ever wonder what your dogs are thinking? How they feel? What they’re dreaming about as they run, whimper, bark, and growl in their sleep? Who or what they’re playing with when they romp around all by themselves? What they’re looking at when all you see is a blank wall or an empty doorway? Will we see them again after they’ve gone? What if they wrote and sent you a story from the great beyond? This Dog’s Afterlife answers those questions.

Enjoyable for all ages
Revisado: 05-05-21
We took our two grandchildren, ages 12 and 9, on a short road trip last week and decided to listen to this book as we drove. All four of us enjoyed it. The first reaction from my grandson was “they hinted that there would be a sequel and I certainly hope there is one!”. My granddaughter said “it was good. I liked it”. We talked about what they liked and one said he particularly liked all the different characters. “Each one had his own voice so I knew who was talking. They were interesting voices too.”. My husband said it was “imaginative” and “kept my interest”. I enjoyed the story but especially marvelled at the narrator’s ability to be consistent and distinct with the many voices portrayed. Yes, the story was certainly imaginative, but the narrator’s talent made it entertaining and enjoyable for all of us. I will seek out any book she narrates in the future.

Very good adventure story — outstanding narration
Revisado: 11-06-20
I really enjoyed listening to this book, not only for the story line but also for the wide variety of characters and, especially, the excellent narration. The main characters were well developed and the narration was consistent in their portrayal, in spite of the variety of accents. Even many of the minor characters introduced more accents which the narrator handled with accuracy and ease. There was adventure, suspense and an interesting travelogue about places I didn’t know. All in all, it was a book that held my interest. I will definitely be looking for more books by this narrator who made the book come alive.

Excellent narration!
Revisado: 07-08-20
We enjoyed listening to this book, but the narration was definitely the highlight. The plot was very good, although we would have liked better character descriptions and found some of the scenes TMI! Some of the details were not realistic. A bear trap can’t be opened by one man, for example, let alone one who has been caught in it. But all in all, the book was suspenseful and kept our attention. As mentioned, the outstanding narration made listening to the book very engaging and helped keep our interest. The variety of voices the narrator used really helped any lack of character development. We will definitely listen to other books narrated by Becca Gray!

Bad!
Revisado: 03-01-20
I have never written a negative review before but this book has compelled me to say something. It is disgusting. The amount of violence that continues throughout is extremely disturbing to say the least. The plot (if you could remove the violence) is fairly good. The character development is OK, but it is not a book I would recommend to anyone. If you want to know more details, read other reviews. I can’t even stand to write about them.
