Historia
Ibn Saud grew to manhood living the harsh traditional life of the desert nomad, a life that had changed little since the days of Abraham. Equipped with immense physical courage, he fought and won, often with weapons and tactics not unlike those employed by the ancient Assyrians, a series of astonishing military victories over a succession of enemies much more powerful than himself. Over the same period, he transformed himself from a minor sheikh into a revered king and elder statesman, courted by world leaders such as Churchill and Roosevelt.

Finally some facts
Revisado: 05-14-18
Finally I made myself to read Anatoli's side of the story of 1996 Everest disaster .
This is a must read to follow up of Into thin Air.
Anatoli is a hero and makes me upset to learn that Krakauer has never fixed his half trues /assumptions about Anatoli in his book after understanding what has happened. What a brave climber Anatoli was

Historia
In 1849 Heinrich Barth joined a small British expedition into unexplored regions of Islamic North and Central Africa. One by one his companions died, but he carried on alone, eventually reaching the fabled city of gold, Timbuktu. His five-and-a-half-year, 10,000-mile adventure ranks among the greatest journeys in the annals of exploration, and his discoveries are considered indispensable by modern scholars of Africa.

what a great story
Revisado: 07-31-17
What a great and relevant story to listen to in 21st century.
The only thing I couldn't comprehend was in chapter 13, the author mentions tigers....
There are no tigers in Africa and none were at that time, so were they at a private property? It sounded a bit off...

scrambled eggs
Revisado: 07-31-17
The only problem I had was when Lev has suggested that when you break the eggs you make an omelette. Boston sure knew you can make scrambled eggs too but Lev insisted on omelette. It was all part of the joke though....

forced reading

I have listened to his previous book Walking the Nile. This book is read by Lev himself , and it seems a bit forced , too much emphasis on making it interesting. Otherwise I liked it

fascinating but no fact checking?
Revisado: 02-23-17
Although I really like the way the book was written, the author has forgotten to correct his assumptions. He ignored letters from a guide asking to write the facts and not assumptions .Not cool...
