Historia
By the summer of 1660 the last remnants of the Republic have been swept away and the Stuarts have been restored under their king, Charles II. A list of forty-nine regicides believed to be involved in the death of Charles I is drawn up. Executions of the regicides begin to take place and the hunt intensifies for those who have gone into hiding or have fled. Although not a regicide, staunch Republican Damian Seeker is on a list of traitors to the king. Royalist spy Lady Anne Winter is employed to find evidence of guilt or innocence among the names on this Winter List.

Brilliant. Everything I hoped it would be
Revisado: 04-07-25
Anne Winter, Thomas Faithly, the Ingolbys- I was so haooy to see them again! The Seeker books are in my top favorites of books I've ever read. The fictional characters are so real, and they interact effortlessly with the people (like Marvell) who actually existed. The author writes as if she had lived the history, and the story's reader brought every character to life. The story itself had me finding any excuse to keep listening. Damien Seeker is maybe the best character I have ever encountered, I wish there were another book in the series!

Three Dahlias and six "thimbs-ups
Revisado: 01-06-23
We chose this book fir our December read, and it is the first book in maybe..forever...all six of us liked! Not only that, but all of us said that, yes, we'd read the next one. One of our group who always figures our who did it was fooled this time! If there really were Dahlia Lively mysteries, we'd all read them, so, hint hint...

Evetything I hoped it would be!
Revisado: 12-31-20
I love this book! What a beautiful ending, to such a rich story. It was sweet romance without the cloying mush; it was a love story that could give the most seasoned cynic a glimmer of hope that love can be real. I thought the writing was excellent, and the reader no less so. I hope he'll be reading City if Bones as well.

Loved the story; loved the history
Revisado: 07-11-19
At first I thought, ugh, what a long book, but I'd read the first two, so I knew it would be worth the time, and of course it was. The narrator is great-I feel I know each character as soon as I hear him or her speak. Barak is my favorite. The story gets more intriguing with each chapter and subplot, and the English history-the time of Henry VIii- is fascinating and obviously well-researched. I'm ready to see what Matthew Shardlake and Barak get up to next.
