Tragic story well told
Revisado: 07-16-19
This is a very tragic story of a woman in an abusive and horrible relationship , a situation very hard for me to understand that she didn’t do more to get out of , especially when she had the chance several times. Unfortunately we often hear that this actually is a huge problem, and the authors foreword goes into this .At times I found the main character a bit whiny.... The twist at the end upped my rating by a whole star and the story really made sense.
The narrator suited the book and subject.
I was given this audiobook in return for an honest review.

This was not for me
Revisado: 09-03-18
I really thought I was going to love this book, and with so many rave reviews I was sure I would.
The plot was actually very interesting, and quite clever , keeping you guessing how it all fitted togeter, But I really disliked the way the story was told , so much wierd filling. I wasn’t grabbed by the story until the last two hours, up until then I could easyily just stopped, only stubbornness made me persevere.
This was narrated by the author, who generally does a good job, but I found it difficult to differentiate between the characters, I found that I really had to concentrate to keep up with which character was “talking”

Historia
Before John Glenn orbited the Earth or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as "human computers" used pencils, slide rules, and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets and astronauts into space. Among these problem solvers were a group of exceptionally talented African American women, some of the brightest minds of their generation.

Interesting but a little dry
Revisado: 01-11-18
Any additional comments?
I don’t very often listen to non fiction , as I have difficultly keeping up the interest. But after seeing the film Hidden figures - which I loved , I was interested to have more background. I did find it rather dry in parts , and had I not seen the film I don’t think I would have been able to stick with it.
I found the narrator did a good job making not too tedious, as not fiction in audio often is. I had hoped for more warmth and a deeper insight into the personalities from the film. I still found it interesting

Historia
The colored lights on the snow gave it a holiday appearance, but the dead woman's body in the yard added a grisly touch. How did Ina Bell Patrick die? Who killed her? And why? The dead woman had no direct heirs, so two nephews and a niece stood to inherit. Dr. Laura Morris was left to make all the arrangements, attorney Roger Morris could certainly use the money, and Zack Morris had disappeared two years earlier.

I did not realise at the time of listening that this was actually the second in a series but this did not affect my enjoyment of the story. So it works fine as a stand alone.

Historia
Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, middle-aged siblings who live together in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, decide to adopt a boy from an orphan asylum to help on their farm. But owing to a series of mishaps, the child who is delivered to their care is not a boy at all but a precocious girl of 11 named Anne Shirley. Although, as Marilla dryly informs her, "you certainly have a genius for getting into trouble", with pluck, imagination, and optimism, Anne flourishes at Green Gables.

I have such loving childhood memories of this book, it's such a wonderful story .
I have also have seen the tv series numerous times.I was lucky to have been given a copy of this new audio book version, I stuggled a bit to start with , not because there is anything wrong with this audio edition, but purely because I still had all the voices from the tv series in my head! Obviously a soul narrator is going to be very diferent! But once i got used to it I settled down to thouroghly enjoying Laurel Schroeder's narration

I was given this one,so I could share my thoughts, I must say the narrator has a fantastic realaxing voice, one of the best I have heard for this type of audiobook. (and this is so important !!
The author repeats the same sleep inducing text to different soothing backgrounds, which is good if you haven't fallen asleep, you then have another chance.
The first time I listened this kept me awake because I was wondering what the next one would be .... Now I can choose my favorite and just listen to that chapter.
My only "complaints" would be - 1.That it is too short ( although it does state this in book discription ) and 2. That the blurb at the end wakes you up if you have just fallen asleep !!

Historia
When siblings Dan and Hayley Daley inherit their late grandmother's derelict Victorian farmhouse, it seems like a dream come true. All they have to do is fix the place up and sell it for a tidy profit! Except - as anyone who has renovated an old house knows - things are never that easy. The walls are rapidly crumbling around them, the architect is a certified lunatic, the budget is spiraling...and then there's the disturbingly intelligent cow to worry about.

fun story rather spoilt by dry female narrator
Revisado: 07-21-16
What didn’t you like about Napoleon Ryan and Heather Wilds ’s performance?
Napoleon Ryan did a really good job on the male narration, suited the tone of the story so well, delivering the slightly silly puns as I felt they where intended. But I found Heather Wilds female narration very dry and over stilted .

An unuasual cozy mystery
Revisado: 03-17-16
What did you love best about A Murder in Mount Moriah?
The cozy comical text and the wonderful narration
Any additional comments?
The author has chosen a rather unusual "hero" for this cozy mystery , a hospital chaplain, but the plot works. The story interested me right from the start . Nice quirky characters, Lots of small comical moments lighten the story. The red herrings in the story keeps you guessing throughout. Very enjoyable . Well narrated by Holly Adams , her voice suited the audiobook very well I recieved this audiobook in return for an unbiased and honest review via Audiobookblast dot com
