Historia
In seventh-century Ireland, a scholar and priest called Artt has a dream telling him to leave the sinful world behind. Taking two monks—young Trian and old Cormac—he rows down the river Shannon in search of an isolated spot on which to found a monastery. Drifting out into the Atlantic, the three men find an impossibly steep, bare island inhabited by tens of thousands of birds, and claim it for God. In such a place, what will survival mean?

The pitfalls of religious fanaticism
Revisado: 01-20-23
I loved this book. Each sentence was written deliberately and painted such a clear picture of the thinking of early Irish monks. It covers great ground: blind devotion, power dynamics, isolation, survival, the absurdity and rigidity of religious law in the face of pure nature, etc. For anyone who has ever fallen in the trappings of seeking for signs. The narration is also beautiful. Aidan Kelly has a wonderful tone; very listenable with distinct voices for each character. Thank you.

Historia
Last summer, The New Yorker published chef Anthony Bourdain's shocking, "Don't Eat Before Reading This." Now, the author uses the same "take-no-prisoners" attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable audiobook, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Incredible
Revisado: 09-15-18
Bryan Stevenson is doing incredible work. This glimpse into the far too-ignored world of incarceration of African Americans in this country is an amazing one, sometimes beautiful, often twisted, and always in need of mercy. Thank God for people who catch stones.
