Hi. My name is Will. Apparently, I’m a necromancer. You would think that I might be a little bit more certain about something like that. Magical practitioners apparently go through a lot of training in an apprenticeship. Again with the apparently. In this case, "apparently" is completely appropriate because I didn’t do any of that. I was finally ready to renovate my house, so I was in a pinch for an apartment. I ended up in one that had a bunch of weird reviews. I did say I was in a pinch. It turned out that the apartment had a ghost.

Very little happens.
Revisado: 11-24-22
While it was enjoyable for the first half, it really bogged down in the second. nothing much happens and it's just sex scene after sex scene.
The setup was interesting and there was a lot of ways the story can go but it goes nowhere.
The big bad is non-existant for most of the book and poses no real threat to anyone. When there is a confrontation at the end, it last literally seconds and he scurries off like a kicked puppy.
Why the MC let someone like him go, knowing fully well what kind of person he is, is beyond me.
The last couple of chapters also feel rushed with things setup, time skip, quick retelling of what happened, rinse and repeat.
Character are good enough, definitely the focus of this book, but their arcs are very short and resolved within a couple of chapters. There were frankly too many characters introduced that the MC is banging, eventually bags, or want to bang him.
It's frankly a miracle his ex-wife left him seeing as every woman, married or not seems to want to jump his bone. Literally everyone he meets except for a hemaphrodite and his realtor or whatever she is. Even the one gay character wants him and wants to be put in a female body so that he can join their "family".

Annoying
Revisado: 11-08-22
The MC is an annoying pushover that somehow acts like he's about to be literally murdered when the prospect of a threesome comes up.
The harem ladies are either pshycos that murder other bonded or whiney children.
This was by far the worst book by Virgil I've read/listened too. Not worth it.

Zero consistency
Revisado: 11-04-22
This is a spoiler so read at own risk.
The MC was "tricked" into bonding with a witch. She claimed her former bonded forced her into it with magic.
That turned out to be bull since she could have fought against his orders.
Then at the end, the former bond had bonded with one of the sisters and ordered her to attack the MC. She claimed she can't disobey him and was going to attack.
So, which is it? Can you, or can you not go against the orders of your bond?

I was just a cop on my beat when the world ended. My last memory was of an alien death ray ripping me from existence. When I woke up in a strange world, I should have just laid low. Figured out the rules of this place before I got involved. But, when you see a woman running from slavers. Well, let's just say they got what they deserved. Only problem is that makes enemies—demigods with the power to bind the magically gifted women of Timeria to their will.

Story was interesting enough to slog through
Revisado: 04-21-22
While the story was very interesting, there were several annoyances that kept me from fully enjoying it.
One was Marcus Jahn again sounding incredibly whiney. The MC is supposed to be a former marine and police officer, whom he sometimes makes sound like he is on the verge of tears and being generally whiney.
The other is how the antagonist is handled. Every time it switches to his perspective it's him raping women through mind control. And yes, it is rape, they were coerced to join by deceit, torture or threats. It's even more tasteless when one of the women is the main protagonists first bondeds mother(who btw was first shown to be resisting but then the next time was a completely brain dead bimbo slobbering c**k).
If the plan is to have her freed, as that is where it looks like it's going, I don't trust the author is good enough to handle the trauma that would bring in a tasteful manner, more like he'll just have her killed to "motivate" or just conveniently lose her memory of the time under.
Either way the mother could have been used better as a ticking clock that the MC has to fight against to free before the antagonist breaks her will completely.
Those sections just made me cringe every time.

Rob is a sheriff's deputy faced with a choice: die in a meaningless shootout six hours from now, or accept the offer of a new life in another world offered by a mysterious goddess. But it won't be easy. He has to bring law and order to the wild frontier. The shocks keep coming when he finds out humans aren't native to Olimero. It is a land populated with fierce orcs, wild beastkin, and cunning elves. He may not have their magic, but he does have an edge. As an outsider, he has no cap on his stats. He will need to train, fight, and survive if he wants to rule.

Fun listen
Revisado: 04-19-22
Great story and excellent performance by the narrators.
My only problem, and it's a minor one is with the MC. He can be a bit frustrating by wanting to be relied on but at the same time not entirely relying on others. Like when something happens to him, he decides to keep it to himself instead of asking about it. Then it's glossed over in a small time skip that they didn't know anything about it. Then what was the point of hiding it in the first place?
Then there is the MC's view on justice that I completely oppose. He thinks it's right to sacrifice an innocent if it meant to punish 99 guilty ones. That's frankly the type of attitude that has Police shooting people in the back for wearing a hoodie. Punishing an innocent is never acceptable when it comes to justice since that is not justice anymore. How can the people trust someone that isn't there to protect the innocent?
Fortunately, that hasn't come up as an actual issue in the book. I just don't like someone claiming to be in pursuit of justice thinking it's Okey for an innocent man to be unjustly punished for "the greater good". That is not justice. You are supposed to protect the innocent, even from yourself.

I was only 27 and I already felt like my life was over. Then I fell asleep in statistics class and all hell broke loose. I've been summoned to a world completely unlike my own. Elves and monster girls roam the streets. A powerful race of demon called the Vrag have invaded, and somehow I've been put in charge of protecting two princesses from all manner of mayhem. The old Cal couldn't handle this. But when I stumbled through the dream portal, I became something more. I'm no longer Cal Newhart, divorced college student and ex-marine. Now I'm the Paladin, a supernatural knight of legend.

Good book, annoying narration.
Revisado: 03-25-22
The story is interesting enough to be enjoyable. the bad part is the male narrator. He makes the MC sound incredibly whiney and sometimes just makes weird choices that don't really fit what's written. The MC seems on the verge of craping himself or crying. It's incredibly annoying. The female narrator did a good job.

Nonsens conflict that could have easily been fixed
Revisado: 03-17-22
The conflict in this book is just nonsens. If one character wasn't a massive b, it could have easily been resolved at the start of the book.
But no, she does nothing to help except the bare minimum and even with the life of a person she considers a sister on the line, she refuses to do the one thing that could save her. Letting everyone put their life on the line fighting an enemy they have no hope in defeating.
Tsundere can be a cute trope, but when their actions literally put others in life threatening danger, it's not cute anymore, they are just f-ing annoying.
She would literally see others in slavery, people she supposedly loves, then do the one thing that could save them.

All over the place.
Revisado: 12-23-21
Everything is all over the place. The MC acts according to his situation, not according to a set personality. It's like whatever the author needs him to be, he is.
The story is set up with a goal but then suddenly it changes, twice. Normally not a big deal but the characters just seem to take everything in stride and not really being bothered by what happens around them or to their situation.
There was this one part that really rubbed me the wrong way.
There's a character who is a real family man. Happily married for 30 years or something like like. 100% dedicated to his wife and daughter. He ends up following the gang to the other world and is miserable. He wants to go home and is willing to leave his wife and daughter behind. Not really something he would do with how the characters was set up. Everything leading up to it made me believe he would suffer as long as his family is happy, but no. He just wants to leave. Next time we hear about him, his wife has taken another man into their bed and he is completely fine with it to the point that him leaving isn't mentioned again.
Again, something his character, as set up, wouldn't really accept. It just came completely out of left field. There was zero set up to him either being bi or a cuck. And the wife was never shown to be interested in another man.
The author seems to have a story in mind and then just change the characters to fit that story. No one acts according to a set character. If he wants one character to act one way, those around them always accept it without a word.
The characters as a whole are also boring. No one really stands out and appart from the main female, no one gets any character development. For the other characters, they seem to do that off screen, so to speak. One minute they act one way and the next, they are done with their character development and then act like that for the rest of the book.
Overall it feels scatterbrained and rushed. The author has had an issue with rushing his books in the past but this one was especially bad. Only reason it gets two starts is because the narration was well done. The book itself is just bad, stay away. Even if you liked his past work.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-13-21
Nothing really happens in this book. They wander around the forest and get some food but nothing that pushes the story forward and with 1h left of the book, still made zero progress with the elf captive.
It's a frustrating listen if I'm honest.
And for some reason the MC and the character that told the story somehow don't see any resemblance between a character in a story that was told at before noon and one that attacked them a couple hours later.
I'll give the series another chance but this book felt like a waste of money.

Good story, bad MC.
Revisado: 12-07-21
The story and world are interesting but the book is hampered by a pretty stupid and unbelievably naive MC. "Huh, this wine has a strange aftertaste, better wash it down with more wine!" Sigh...
This MC is supposed to we a worldly man who has traveled around from place to place and pretty much immediately can suss out if a character is up to no good. And even after being warned about a certain character, he still stupidly, let's his guard down and gets drugged and captured.
Why not insist on one of your Dao companions joining for dinner or even one of your servents. He knew she was going to try and seduce him so why not put the breaks on that immediately. Or just decline the invitation and say you'll do dinner the next day so they can leave before that. He didn't want to go to the dinner so don't go. But no, there had to be some stupid reason for him to get captured.
The Narration is fine for the most part but when she does the MC's inner monologue, it's for some reason done with a deep voice that is annoying. What's worse is that the MC's speaking voice is nothing like that. Either just read the inner thoughts normally in your own voice or do the MC's normal voice.
Men don't think in a deep baritone.
