Childhood memories revisited
Revisado: 07-30-24
As a young teenager in the mid-1980s I borrowed this book from the library and began my journey into Pern.
Great narration.
Glad this first in the Harper Hall Trilogy is included with the Audible subscription. Will have to wait for more credits to get the rest.

Historia
London. July, 1399. As rumors spread that his ambitious cousin, Henry Bolingbroke, has returned from exile in France, King Richard's grip on the English throne grows ever more precarious. Meanwhile, the body of a young woman is discovered at Dowgate sluice. When it's established that the dead woman was a novice from nearby Barking Abbey, the coroner calls in his friend, Brother Chandler, to investigate. Who would cut the throat of a young nun and throw her remains in the river? And what was she doing outside the confines of the priory in the first place?

Historia
James Henry, a kind-hearted professor of English literature, is forced to move back home to Quincy's Gap, a tiny town in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, to care for his aging father. Shortly after moving into a house that hasn't changed since his childhood, the overweight, divorced, book-loving cheese puff addict accepts a position as head librarian and joins a supper club for dieters who call themselves the "Flab Five". Avoiding carbs is almost impossible in this deep-fried, all-you-can-eat Southern town.

Revisado: 11-16-23
I loved Ellery Adams’ Book Retreat Mystery Series, I liked the first book of the Hope Street Church Mystery series. This though.. I understand the struggle with being overweight, and it was an interesting enough plot to keep me listening, but I won’t continue this series. I kept cringing at the food choices, especially all those artificial sweeteners. Stevia had been around for years prior to this book’s copyright of 2017, and sodas on the market sweetened with it can be found. Or flavored seltzers, flavored waters, milk, juices with no added sugars.
Just cringey enough for me to not continue this series. Glad this was an included title with my Audible membership and I didn’t spend a credit on it

I listened to a short Christmas story from this series that was included in with several others. I was intrigued enough to check out the first book of the series. Too much cussing and too much descriptive allusions to sex to classify this as a clean cozy.
Won’t listen to the rest of this series. Glad I didn’t waste a Credit on this trite drivel

Historia
Ferrying tourists around Dublin for the Leprechaun Limo Service makes quite a change after years in the military. Still, Megan Malone is enjoying her life in Ireland. She likes the scenery, the easy pace, the quirky, quick-witted locals. Everything - except having one of her clients drop dead at the statue of fabled fishmonger, Molly Malone. Most restaurant critics notch up their share of enemies. Elizabeth Darr, however, was a well-loved international star. She and her husband, Simon, had just had dinner when Elizabeth collapsed, and spoiled seafood is the first suspect.

Good story but too much cussing for a cozy mystery
Revisado: 06-16-23
Enjoyed the main story and characters. However I didn’t appreciate all the cussing and taking the Lord’s Name in vain.
I thoroughly enjoyed the narration by Lucy Rayner who also narrated the Daisy Dalrymple mystery series.
I picked up this title via the Plus Catalog. While, as noted above, I enjoyed the story line and characters I won’t be continuing this series due to the cussing and profane use of Jesus’s Holy Name

Far too much cussing
Revisado: 03-29-21

Interesting enough basic plot but not enough to keep me listening through all this cussing

For the first time, the full story of a crime that has haunted New England since 1873. The cold-blooded ax murder of two innocent Norwegian women at their island home off the coast of New Hampshire has gripped the region since 1873, beguiling tourists, inspiring artists, and fueling conspiracy theorists. The killer, a handsome Prussian fisherman down on his luck, was quickly captured, convicted in a widely publicized trial, and hanged in an unforgettable gallows spectacle.

It’s pronounced HAY-Vril.
Revisado: 10-28-20
So far the story is good (about have way through) but narrators learn how to properly pronounce New England cities and towns
Haverhill, MA is pronounced HAY-Vril. Worcester is pronounced WUSS-tah. Concord, MA and Concord, NH are pronounced CONK-erd.

Powerful witness of God
Revisado: 10-17-20
Wow! When I pulled this book from the selections of True Crime books from the Audible Plus catalog I had no idea just how much Christian Witness and true Forgiveness there would be. As a Catholic I don’t agree with all the theology, but I don’t have to, to know this is a powerful, wonderful and beautiful witness to God.

Vulgar
Revisado: 02-19-18
Barely got through chapter 1, started chapter 2 and shut it off. Far too vulgar
Gritty and dark is one thing, vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity is another, and from the little I was willing to subject myself to this is vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity
