Worst Audible book ever
Revisado: 04-30-16
What disappointed you about The Consultant?
A conulting firm, or is it the Devil of Commerce, invades a tech firm..,,is strange at firs, scary in a chaper or two and then seems to falter between real and unreal. The drama gets intense and nonsensical early ( A yellow lab is hunted, shot and then served for dinner at a bonding outing). Skipped to the end iwhich was as bad, unconvincing and contrived as the entire book. Thankfully, I bought it on sale.
Has The Consultant turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes indeed.
What aspect of Ramiz Monsef’s performance would you have changed?
Reader Okay, can't blame him for content.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Only that I bought on sale.

As she begins to put the pieces together in her folksy fashion, Jessica recognizes that this could well be her last performance.

Historia
The beloved humorist and bestselling author returns with his most riotous collection of essays to date. Starting with his trademark outdoorsman's wit, Patrick F. McManus's newest collection ponders the strange allure of the RV, the existential implications of being lost, the baffling tendency of animals to outsmart those who wish to hunt them, and the singular pleasure of doubling the size of every fish one doesn't actually catch.

Historia
America’s self-invented tinkerers are back at it in their metaphorical garages - fiddling with everything from solar-powered cars to space elevators. In Bunch of Amateurs, Jack Hitt visits a number of different garages and has written a fascinating book that looks at America’s current batch of amateurs and their pursuits. Beginning with Ben Franklin’s kite and leading all the way to the current TV hit American Idol, Hitt argues that the nation’s love of self-invented obsessives has always driven the country to rediscover the true heart of the American dream.

Worse book I have ever read
Revisado: 01-03-13
What would have made Bunch of Amateurs better?
Researched facts, avoided unsubstiated generalizations. From opening premse, manufactured a thesis and forced data into it. Can't comment on the conclusion as I was so fed up with the con job in the first several chapters I quit.
What could Jack Hitt have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Went to a movie instead of writing this book...or better yet, offer me my money back.
Any additional comments?
Can I have my money back? I'd get more by buying a lottery ticket.

Riveting story of bravery and sacrifice
Revisado: 06-18-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Detailed narrative of a little known but critical naval battle of WWII.
What did you like best about this story?
Clearly written with descriptions of the men involved so that you knew and cared for what would and did happen to them. At the same time detailing the combat so forcefully, the sight and sound of combat was almost real.
Have you listened to any of Barrett Whitener’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He gave character and voice to the sailors.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The misery and terror of the survivors in the sea.
Any additional comments?
One of the best narrative histories of combat and the fighting men I have read

Too much ghost stuff
Revisado: 06-18-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Great disappointment. Should have skipped this one.
If you’ve listened to books by Craig Johnson before, how does this one compare?
To little of the marvelous associated characters with their indiocyncraces. Forced story. Could have ended with a long shot, artifically prolonged to create a lot of fantasy.
Was Hell Is Empty worth the listening time?
No
Any additional comments?
I have enjoyed the other books by this author, but he has established a predictable pattern of investigate, hunt and suffer terrible weather and outdoor conditions aided by unearthly forces. I like his characters but having read (heard) several of his stories, plan to lay of his books for a while.
