Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Amazing book but the story is so intense
Revisado: 09-15-22
This is not a feel good book. At points it was very difficult to get through it, not because it's a bad story overall, but the things that happened hurt my heart. I had to stop twice and questioned if I was going to finish. However, I really enjoyed the writing style, how the 3 stories merged and the narrator. if you can read past the parts that involve children being hurt, its worth finishing.
The narrator was amazing, I really got sucked into that world and was able to visualize the characters and surroundings.
I'm going to take a break and read something funny but I do plan to listen to the next book.

I was hooked from the start
Revisado: 05-25-22
I really enjoyed this story. The narration was great. I am not a huge fan of multiple narrators but both did an amazing job at making the story come alive.
The story itself was fun and exciting from the landscape, character development, folklore, and magic. It normally takes me a couple chapters to get enthralled and I usually restart because my mind wanders, but not with this one. I'm looking forward to the next book.

I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life. Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans. I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts; I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place. Just give me a chance and I’ll level mountains and kill untold millions, making myself the dark queen of the world.

Surprisingly good!
Revisado: 05-13-21
Based on some of the reviews I thought the characters would be too obnoxious but overall I found it to be a fun story and the author did a good job at explaining why the main character acted the way she did.
Anisha Dadia also did a wonderful job. Some of the voices were similar but distinctive enough for me to tell who was speaking without getting confused. She pulled me into the story without making it feel like she was just reading a book.
I look forward to the next one in the series.

Historia
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance - and healing - in each other's arms.

Good story, took time to get use to new narrator
Revisado: 04-26-21
Overall I enjoyed the story. Nesta's stubbornness was really difficult to listen most of the time but, I knew that was the character's story even before I bought the book so I got what I paid for lol. Hearing a conclusion to that story line was really great and something I was missing from the original series. Her journey was heartbreaking and it was lovely to see her transform into a better version of herself without sacrificing what made her...HER. I really hope Sarah J. Mass writes another one that dives deeper with Elaine/Lucian, and even Mor because it feels like there is unfinished business there as well.
I found the erotic portions a bit lazy in their description. It's like the author could only think of one word to describe male genitalia. The word doesn't bother me, I just don't understand why the overuse. There was one section where I swear they said it so many times in 2-3 sentences that I started laughing. I don't remember that being the case in her other books.
The new narrator was frustrating in the beginning. Her portrayal of Nesta, Cassian, Azriel, and Amren I felt were spot on. Which is great since Nesta and Cass are the main focus with Az peppered in. I got use to the rest except Morgan. I just can't with how muted she made that character. Mor was always bubbly and animated. I found myself replaying her scenes with a voice more fitting. Luckily she only makes a few appearances. Had she been the main focus, I would have had to stop listening and just read the book
I saw a few complain about over the top acting but I found her passionate reading engaging. I could feel the character's excitement, fear, passion, sadness, etc... I think her performance was wonderful! I just wish she had taken some time to hear how the previous narrators voiced the characters. I know it can be done because Amanda Leigh Cobb did a phenomenal job at recreating the voices Jennifer Ikeda used.

Great story through all 3 books
Revisado: 04-06-21
I was originally skeptical of this plot. I gave it shot because I had a free credit and figured it would kill some time on my drives to and and from work. The books play out like a table top game and I really enjoyed that. I thought this one in particular was a wonderful ending to the series. It had a great twist.
The performance of Paul Boehmer was also great. His ability to capture the voice and personalities of each character made it easy to fall into the book.

Haha it *is* a Christmas special
Revisado: 10-17-19
No joke, this takes place around the solstice and they are buying gifts for each other. There was no action, which I was ok with. If you just want a follow up to the characters then it's fine but if you want a lot of closure, this ain't it. The bigger issues are totally unresolved...the ones you actually care about. It almost feels unfinished, that she's preparing to drop another book.. but she's not so I don't really see the point to this. unless she's going to bring these characters into another story in the state they're in right now. We'll see I guess.

Great ending to the series
Revisado: 10-15-19
I really enjoyed this book and cried so many times! Each book in this series was better than the last.
The narrator did a fabulous job. Normally when there is a narrator change, it takes me a while to get use to it but Amanda came in this to win it. Some characters had specific tones that I got use to and she picked them up from the previous woman so I didn't even notice any difference.

Revisado: 08-14-19
I especially liked The Education of Brother Thaddeus. It was nice to get a glimpse of the aftermath of the church. I thought Will Wheaton did a wonderful job narrating. The way he pronounced some of the major character's names threw me off but I quickly got use to it. Happens every time someone new narrates a series. Felicia Day was also a delight to listen to.
