Historia
On Harlow Street, the well-to-do neighborhood couples and their children gather for a catered barbecue as the summer winds down; drinks continue late into the night. Everything is fabulous until the picture-perfect hostess explodes in fury because her son disobeys her. Everyone at the party hears her exquisite veneer crack—loud and clear. Before long, that same young boy falls from his bedside window in the middle of the night. And then, his mother can only sit by her son’s hospital bed, where she refuses to speak to anyone, and his life hangs in the balance.

“The Push” was so good. This was just okay.
Revisado: 09-30-23
Title. The Push was so engrossing, so dynamic, and this just seemed like the author needed to get words on paper to get another book out. I finished it but I hope her next book is more inspired.

Incredibly boring. I zoned out many times and didn’t even bother to rewind and register to what I missed. Skip it!

Historia
Working as a dedicated forensic psychiatrist for many years, Emma is not shocked so easily. Then she is assigned to work with Connie, a wife and mother accused of a despicable crime. Connie is suffering from dissociative amnesia - or at least seems to be. Now it is up to Emma to decide whether Connie can stand trial for her sins. But there is something about Connie that inexorably pulls Emma into her orbit. Too Close is a masterfully written riveting listen about the powerful - yet dangerous - closeness between women.

Pretty good, wrong title
Revisado: 11-19-19
Pretty good book about family dynamic and mental illness. Title is bad though and really isn’t a reflection of the story, entertaining enough though.

Does anyone really believe the woman is a surgeon?
Revisado: 09-12-19
Still reading but pretty good story so far. But why the main character was made to be a surgeon is just unreal. She’s a complete immature train wreck. She could have had a helluva lot of more believable professions. We’ll see if there’s a reason for it but damn if I don’t want this lady cutting into my chest. (A HEART SURGEON UNDER 40 YEARS OLD WITH HER OWN OR OMG I just need to remember this is a work of fiction but that part is sort of like fairy tale.)

Her mother Grace finds it impossible to let this secret rest. The more Grace prods, the tighter Neva holds to her story, and the more the lifelong differences between private, quiet Neva and open, gregarious Grace strain their relationship.

Story entertaining enough but...
Revisado: 06-19-19
Omg is the narration awful. The woman is a grandmother voice narrating the life of modern sexually active professional 30-somethings. Think of Mrs. Potts Angela Lansbury narrating sex and the city. She doesn’t try to act out any different voices of the characters either- all ages, men and women are all grandmother voices. I think I would have gotten a lot more out of this book if it weren’t read like a fairy tale with all the unnatural expressive inflections like you’re reading to a child.
Story is ok. I listened the whole way through but the narration never got better and I never really got used to it. I’ll probably look for another book from this author but not if this narrator reads it. Not any book from this narrator unless it’s a book of fairy tales.

Really great! Lots of twists
Revisado: 03-30-19
The only thing that can be annoying is that it seems every other chapter there’s “another secret” they’re not telling you. But it’s a great story with a good performance so I’d recommend this book.

Halfway through
Revisado: 02-02-19
I might revise this once I finish the book but I just needed to put in words that I want to slap Juliet across the face for her self righteous behavior. Book and story good, I’m enjoying, but goddamn hopefully that character STFU and shows some respect. Your typical “everything’s about me” first world spoiled brat. Oh yea and apparently a PHD. :::eye roll:::
Rant over.

Run of the mill
Revisado: 01-05-19
Just your run of the mill post apocalyptic novel. Lots of unanswered loose ends. Main character is sometimes so whiny it is infuriating. Entertaining enough I guess but I don’t get what all the hype is. With all the loose ends maybe we’ll get a more interesting sequel.

Wtf
Revisado: 12-20-18
6 freaking hours into this book and I’ve been waiting for something interesting to happen. Seems like it was going to happen a few times but... in an effort to create suspense maybe?... the author cuts out to a different situation. Instead generally you get to listen to a 4 year old boy whine instead. Why there is so much of this apparently completely insignificant character in the book doing things that don’t appear to have any bearing on any storyline is baffling. And yes the interesting situation is barely revisited if at all. If something interesting doesn’t happen I’m going to return this book.
Oh look mommy is taking us to the store and I wanna go and it’s not nice for you to say that that’s a bad word And let’s go make snow angles!
