A simple classic
Revisado: 11-07-22
Amazing performance. I loooove to listen to english accents (or is it dialect?) Per-fect!
The story is funny, jumpy, surprising, simple, straightforward, educational, ... really, _really_ good. And it has something from everything: LitRPG? You get dragon stats. Tolkien-like linguistic? Well thought through language uses. Story? Lots. History? Well... a bit.

Great damn Firefly story
Revisado: 01-29-22
Characters act as you expect, our multitude of loved ones. Good set-up scenery for plenty of wild space recklessness.
The reading is just perfect. You can hear the goo‘ ol‘ space characters right out of the series.
The best continuation possible.

Historia
Vex and Vax have always been outsiders. A harsh childhood in the elite elven city of Syngorn quickly taught them not to rely on others. Now, freed from the expectations of their exacting father and the scornful eyes of Syngorn’s elves, the cunning hunter and the conning thief have made their own way in the world of Exandria. The twins have traveled far and experienced great hardship. But with the help of Vex’s quick wit and Vax’s quicker dagger, they’ve always kept ahead of trouble. Now, unknown perils await them in the bustling city of Westruun.

Flat story but excellent presented
Revisado: 01-22-22
The story is nothing special. The writing style with all the adjectives is a bit tiring.
But presentation-wise, the cooperation of the critters is amazing. Liam and Laura are good, and Robbie is really superb, which was a nice surprise for me. Distinguished voices, emotions, just nice.
As a note, i dislike flashback chapters in almost every book, this is no exception, but that’s a personal taste.
A must have for millions CR fans nonetheless.

Martin and his friends discovered that their world is computer generated and that by altering the code they could alter reality. They traveled back in time to Medieval England to live as wizards. Almost everything they've done since then has, in one way or another, blown up in their faces. So of course they decide to make dragons. It does not go well.

Bit over the top with the ideas how to merge fantasy and computer. I have to suspend my disbelief a lot. I like the main characters though and the narration is distinct and excellent. Storywise room for improvement in the next book.

Historia
The Battle of Serenity Valley was the turning point that led the Independents to their defeat at the hands of the Alliance. Yet the Browncoats had held the valley for weeks against all odds, before being ordered to lay down their arms. Command stated they refused to send in airpower because the ground war was "too hot". But the soldiers who were there insist that was not true.... While picking up a new cargo on Persephone, Captain Malcolm Reynolds is kidnapped by a bunch of embittered veteran Browncoats who suspect him of sabotaging the Independents during the war.

It’s good to have it continue, but...
Revisado: 09-06-20
Oh my, its good to see those characters in your minds eye. Thats the good part of this audiobook.
The bad part is, that the story isn’t great — its good enough, though. I will continue consuming this series, because its so much fun to “see” the cast again. The author has done an adequate but not perfect hob to bring them all back to life.
The speaker also is good, he could be better, but what’s important is the imagination...

Magic, performance unbelievable
Revisado: 10-12-19
The story is good. There are points I would have liked a different approach but when I feared that stuff becomes predictable there were some surprises coming. All in all the story is good and with the introduction to the magical world „out of the way“ I look forward to the next book.
But truly unbelievable is the performance if the narrator. I look for titles where I can distinguish the characters while speaking. And it is done here perfectly. So many characters, so many voices.
I’ve heard this quality only from Jonatan Sleeps of Saturn Five Sounds but they use a lot of digital. Michael Page comes close to this, but this is even better. Perfectly done. Five stars with a plus.

A good representation of the classical fantasy hero genre
Revisado: 02-09-18
This is a very good fantasy book, with lots of suspense, good character background building and getting to like them. It has mystery, it is world-creating. All in all top notch.
The characters are a bit stereotypical, but actually, that’s what I like — maybe not everyone does. The world created also resembles a known one, which is also a plus or minus, depending on your liking: if you as a reader recognize asian, russian, or norsk culture immediately, you can use that imagination and the author can build on that, even if all names are sort-of-different. On the other hand it limits what the author has to invent or may conflict with the readers expectations.
You get to know the characters via descriptions of memories that are put in several places throughout the book. Ok so far, but: these interruptions happen up until the very last chapters. I found it very dissatisfying to get hidden things revealed so late. I would have preferred to finish “knowing” the backgrounds of the main characters about in the middle of the book. Except some secrets of course which those characters would not reveal easily themselves. I would also have preferred exposition to other characters when appropriate over the chosen exposition to the reader only.
Specifically for the audio version of this book: the publisher chose to read the chapters by different voices. But since each chapter told in the 3rd person anyway i do not see the point (unlike the original Dracula tells each chapter in 1st person where the approach work). This way all 6 speakers have to voice-act all characters — and the listener adapt to all variations of all of them. Like listening to 6 different books, and I do not see the benefit. One speaker for the full book would have been much better.

Scientific, fantastic, imaginative
Revisado: 12-12-17
Where does The Three-Body Problem rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Just below the top-ten, I'd say. Interesting science-fiction, some interesting person-stories.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I do not think that the scientific explanations of the fantastic elements are good for the story. It might have been better to not try to explain the scientific riddles. I would think that the lacking closure might be compensated with suspense. The way it is presented becomes a bit to surreal.
Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?
Shi. Very nice voice, very interesting character.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was very much moved by the depictions of the cultural revolution in china of which I have no prior knowledge.
Any additional comments?
Strange mix of history, science and phantastic fiction. I really liked to read such a story from an eastern point of view. I have consumed so much western science fiction already.

Ping! 1000 XP earned
Revisado: 12-12-17
What disappointed you about The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga?
For me, coming from Joel Rosenberg, LitRPG is the story of how modern people would struggle in a fantasy world. This story however is the narration of a WoW-Run from the viewpoint of a WoW-Character. Meaning: It has no soul and the "connection" to the characters is rather thin.
Has The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes, I know now that I have to be careful and there seem to be sub-genres.
Which character – as performed by Nick Podehl – was your favorite?
The voice acting of the narrator is very good. The persons can be distinguished very easily.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment and boredom.
Any additional comments?
"The father of american LitRPG" sound rather catchy, doesn't it. Well, that might be and I wish Kong all of success. His vlog is quite funny. But this sub-genre of relating a computer game back into a book this strongly is very... peculiar. The storys arc is solomnly how the main character gains xp and levels up. These events are presented very explicitly and get in the way of a potential story.

I am still searching the story
Revisado: 09-24-17
What disappointed you about Obligations Incurred?
I don't see any story or humor in this book. There is one character that is developed (or developed further), but that's it. So, Not much progress in the story, at all.
Would you ever listen to anything by Blaise Corvin again?
Probably not.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
He manages to make different voices, but is range is limited and sometimes its difficult for me to get who is speaking. He can speak with several nice accents, though.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Obligations Incurred?
I can not see any reason for the whole "plot" up to where the action starts.
Any additional comments?
Someone who likes the kind of action displayed in his description of the battle might like the book. His descriptions of battles are detailed and long.
