Historia
Liesl and Erich have found a home in Ireland away from the chaos of war-ravaged Europe. As the dark news of what has happened to the Jews filters through, they are torn—love for their mother and their home on one hand, and the profound sense of peace and belonging they have in Ballycreggan on the other. Like all of the other children who escaped Nazi territory on the Kindertransport, they must wait to hear the fate of their loved ones.

I loved the truthful telling of the terrible and awful realities of world war 2 at a personal level. It was uplifting to find the characters responding with courage, sense and practical and realistic solutions, which included human interaction at several levels.
Respect and acceptance of the different word views was refreshing.
Thank you Jean Grainger for two uplifting and lovely books ( The Star and the Shamrock and The Emerald Hotizon).

Historia
Born a veritable great lion of God to a devout Jewish family, Saul of Tarsus is raised by his parents to embrace their love of humanity. Dogged by what he perceives as a lack of true faith, he embarks on a journey to save his people from sacrilege. But on the road to Damascus a vision of the resurrected Jesus changes the course of his life. Converting to Christianity, the newly christened Paul transforms from persecutor of blasphemers into apostle to the gentiles, becoming one of the supreme influences on the Catholic Church and the Western world.

Great Lion of God
Revisado: 08-19-21
Well researched and written in her inimitable style, I found myself engaged throughout the very long story. One has to bear in mind that this is a novel and not a factual account, and so allow for artistic license!
The performance is excellent. The narrator is very true to the book ( I followed the written text). His rendering of the various stages of the story is top class
The story is well known, and the interpretation of the author, although sometimes she takes significant license from the Biblical scripture, is sensitive to the underlying truth of Scripture.
Overall rating, story and performance 4 and a half stars.

Historia
A vast canvas of camps, prisons, transit centres and secret police, of informers and spies and interrogators but also of everyday heroism, The Gulag Archipelago is Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's grand masterwork. Based on the testimony of some 200 survivors, and on the recollection of Solzhenitsyn's own 11 years in labour camps and exile, it chronicles the story of those at the heart of the Soviet Union who opposed Stalin, and for whom the key to survival lay not in hope but in despair.

Gulag Archipelago
Revisado: 11-09-19
The journey of brutal and devastating destruction of people and fellow Russians is told frankly and explicitly by the author who experienced it all at first hand. His sensitive insights and his searching discussion leaves the reader with an amazing insight into a very dark period of human history. The courage of the author and the poignant reading of the book by his son make for an extraordinary and intimate experience of the painful period of Russian ( and human) history.
