Historia
When we first meet 14-year-old Susie Salmon, she is already in heaven. In the sweet, untroubled voice of a precocious teenage girl, Susie relates the awful events of her death and her own adjustment to the strange new place where she finds herself. With love, longing, and a growing understanding, Susie watches her family as they cope with their grief. This story of seemingly unbearable tragedy is transformed into a suspenseful and touching narrative about family, memory, love, heaven, and living.

Watch the movie instead.

It made me wonder ... and not in the good way. The first thing that came to mind was based on the author's reading of this book ... does she even like it? Read in such a boring, monotone voice, it was almost painful at times. The excitement or fear that she wrote about was not heard in her voice. Clearly she was not a fan of her own work.
The constant use of, I said. he said, she said was often times very jarring. Jarring in that it had the effect of pulling you out of the story, in the rare instances that I felt myself getting genuinely interested. Switch it up a bit. Try using replied, responded, expressed ... anything but said used for the umpteenth time in any given chapter.
It is rare that I like a movie more than the book, but with this book that is definitely the case.

Forget your old name. Forget your parents." These are the things Euphrosyne’s grandparents and counselor tell her. But if Orthodox Christianity is a lie, why did the icon so dramatically save her life? And what can she do to get the icon back? In a post-Christian America, where going to church, praying, or owning holy things means death, a 12-year-old girl searches for the truth. Finding it may cost her everything.

An unexpected gem
Revisado: 06-08-21
While perhaps not the most experienced author with a writing style that needs a certain amount of polish, from the first few moments of this book my cheeks were stained with tears. An absolute beautiful story. Unlike Winston and Julia in 1984, the faithful Orthodox put their trust in God, no matter how difficult it may be, and the difference in results are as far as the east is from the west. I would highly recommend.

Right from the Beginning is the personal memoir of Pat Buchanan, the story of how the most controversial conservative in America got where he is today, and how he came to believe as he does.

Fantastic book, terrible narration
Revisado: 03-11-21
I've read this book a dozen times and thought it would be fun to be able to listen to on drives. I was incorrect. The narration was terrible. It sounded like it was read by a computer, which was annoying at best. Words were mispronounced, and there was absolutely no emotion, save for a few strained moments, in the narration. Buy the print version instead.
