Historia
Vietnam became the Western world’s most divisive modern conflict, precipitating a battlefield humiliation for France in 1954, then a vastly greater one for the US in 1975. Max Hastings has spent the past three years interviewing scores of participants on both sides, as well as researching a multitude of American and Vietnamese documents and memoirs, to create an epic narrative of an epic struggle. Here are the vivid realities of strife amid jungle and paddies that killed two million people.

Well written, comprehensive narrative
Revisado: 02-17-25
Well written, comprehensive narrative, that outlines the conflict within Vietnam over three decades. The author while not serving as an apologist for the United States, and other Western powers, does illuminate the realities of the corruption and hypocrisy of the Northern Communists.

Historia
The Roman Republic was the most remarkable state in history. What began as a small community of peasants camped among marshes and hills ended up ruling the known world. Rubicon paints a vivid portrait of the Republic at the climax of its greatness - the same greatness which would herald the catastrophe of its fall. It is a story of incomparable drama.

The Republic
Revisado: 03-10-24
Tom Holland, proves brilliant as usual. The end of the Republic, the dawn of the Empire, the gateway to the present.

Historia
David Roberts describes the culture of the Anasazi - the name means "enemy ancestors" in Navajo - who once inhabited the Colorado Plateau and whose modern descendants are the Hopi Indians of Arizona. Archaeologists, Roberts writes, have been puzzling over the Anasazi for more than a century, trying to determine the environmental and cultural stresses that caused their society to collapse 700 years ago. He guides us through controversies in the historical record, among them the haunting question of whether the Anasazi committed acts of cannibalism.

The outdoor museum…
Revisado: 02-17-23
The prose may be dry in places, (pun unintended) but the authors heart seems to be in the Colorado canyon country, otherwise known as Abbey’s Land. I enjoyed the book.
