Historia
Alizée Benoit, an American painter working for the Works Progress Administration (WPA), vanishes in New York City in 1940 amid personal and political turmoil. No one knows what happened to her. Not her Jewish family living in German-occupied France. Not her artistic patron and political compatriot, Eleanor Roosevelt. Not her close-knit group of friends, including Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, and Lee Krasner.

Art, History, Family, through an Abstract Lens

Loved meeting famous artists in their formative years. WWII sections were sad, but the ending made up for it. Will give me a better perspective next time I see a Pollock.

Loved hearing the author's voice recounting this tale of bickering high school classmates go at each other while trying to organize a reunion. No one is safe from the mud slinging. Or the bullets.

Historia
Wally Roux is a teenage genius with a big imagination and a big heart, who just moved to Savannah, GA, from Maine with his mom, who adopted him when he was an infant. In this charming and sweet solo performance, Wally investigates what is causing a number of strange events and occurrences. He explores and gets lost within space-time - an infinite, indefinable, and mysterious void that you can’t see but when you slice into it you can feel it.

It's always great to find some smart kids, clever dialog, and an ending that satisfies.

Historia
This is the Paris you never knew. From the Revolution to the present, Graham Robb has distilled a series of astonishing true narratives, all stranger than fiction. A young artillery lieutenant, strolling through the Palais-Royal, observes disapprovingly the courtesans plying their trade. A particular woman catches his eye; nature takes its course. Later that night, Napoleon Bonaparte writes a meticulous account of his first sexual encounter....

I enjoyed the stories but I would have enjoyed the printed version more; there were far too many street names I couldn't spell to look up.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Elegant writing
Revisado: 02-05-19
An Irish mystery elegantly told. Actually, two mysteries involving children: one past, one present, both equally personal for the lead detective in this debut volume of the Dublin Murder Squad.

Historia
The last thing Kaylee wants to do is participate in a childish scavenger hunt - especially inside the abandoned retirement home on the edge of town. When she finds a bruised, deaf boy hiding inside one of the rooms, she vows to lead him to safety - only to discover the front doors are now padlocked, and her friends are nowhere to be found. Kaylee is about to learn that not everything that goes "bump in the night" is imaginary, and sometimes there are worse things to fear than ghosts.

BEWARE of Scavenger Hunts
Revisado: 09-15-17
The Resthaven audio book took me on a scavenger hunt I wouldn't have dreamed of. A small group of girls were given flashlights, cameras, and a list of things to find in an abandoned nursing home. It is a YA book and tempers flare from the beginning. New girl, Kaylee, is set at odds from the others and must go it alone until she finds an item not on the list, a small boy. Everything changes for her, and she must think beyond her own problems and needs. The labyrinth of rooms hide dangers of all sorts as Kaylee must find the path to safety for herself and the uncooperative boy.
Randi Larson's narration gave each character a unique voice and added to the suspense. In that sense, I couldn't put the book down.
