Historia
When a catastrophic solar storm brings about the collapse of modern civilization, an Amish community in Pennsylvania is caught up in the devastating aftermath. Once-bright skies are now dark. Planes have plummeted to the ground. The systems of modern life have crumbled. With their stocked larders and stores of supplies, the Amish are unaffected at first. But as the English (the Amish name for all non-Amish people) become more and more desperate, they begin to invade Amish farms.

Interesting take on dystopian novel
Revisado: 11-13-17
I thought that this book was an interesting and somewhat unique take on the dystopian novel. In so many books the protagonist has to finally give in to the need to protect themselves by becoming as violent as those around them. This book instead shows how the Amish, who do not believe in violence, choose to manage in a violent and suffering world. (I should probably mention that they do not emerge unscathed.) I thought that the book did a really good job of describing the Amish way of life and the reader was perfect for the role. I happen to live in an area with a strong Amish presence, which is part of what attracted me to the book, and I was not disappointed!

Interesting coming of age story
Revisado: 06-13-16
If you could sum up The Summer Boy in three words, what would they be?
coming of age fantasy (of doesn't count as a word!)
Who was your favorite character and why?
Drum. He was the main character but also he was a kind person with a good heart.
Which character – as performed by Wayne Paige – was your favorite?
Drum
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Is it a dream?
Any additional comments?
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book, but after I listened for a while I really liked it. It is an entertaining read and the characters are brought to life in the reading.

Excellent and realistic story
Revisado: 06-08-16
Where does The Mare rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The Mare is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to in some time. It had compelling and realistic characters and an underlying theme about social injustice. All of the characters were flawed in some way, just as in real life. The description of the attitudes at horse shows and the sense of privilege that some of the young riders have was very well done and very accurate.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
There were multiple narrators that brought each character to life in a different way. That made the book especially nice to listen to.
If you could rename The Mare, what would you call it?
The Mare.

This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Wow. Just wow.
Revisado: 12-23-15
What did you love best about A Little Life?
The author's ability to describe the beauty of friendship and love was amazing.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. It was impossible of course, given the length, but I did listen to it obsessively for 3 days until I finished it.
Any additional comments?
This is a devastating and beautiful book. It pushes you to very dark places, but also shows you incredible beauty and love. It will not be for everyone. I thought about this book when I wasn't reading it. In fact, as I neared the end I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about it and worrying about the characters so much. This is very unusual for me and I think it is going to stick with me for a long time.

Historia
After their epic journey across Europe, Ayla and Jondalar have reached his home, the Ninth Cave of the Zelandonii, the old stone-age settlement in the region known today as southwest France. Jondalar's family greet him warmly, but they are initially wary of the beautiful young woman he has brought back, with her strange accent and her tame wolf and horses.

What happened to Ayla's voice?!
Revisado: 10-31-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you have listened to the series, this is worth listening to so you can see how things continue to play out
What other book might you compare The Shelters of Stone to and why?
The others in the series.
Which character – as performed by Sandra Burr – was your favorite?
Ayla is my favorite character but Sandra Burr has changed the way she does her voice. It is horrible! As another reviewer has said she sounds like a poorly done Russian spy. I mostly ignored it but it did interfere with the story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It is far too long to consider that.
