Solid advice for raising kids
Revisado: 07-02-24
While a few of the mental models are antiquated or oversimplified e.g. Right brain, Left brain, this book does a great job of explaining how a kids brain works with analogies that are easy to understand and put to use
I applied some of the lessons right away and noticed immediate positive effects. It helped my daughter feel less scared about a recurring nightmare and gave me some great ways to work through tantrums. Strongly recommend this one to parents of toddlers.

This book tells me about how to do my makeup, get plastic surgery, what size of print to wear, what types of exercise to do and how to do them. What I wish it gave me more of in its 32 hours is up to date medical advice and what to expect about...pregnancy.

Historia
On a cold spring night in 1952, a huge meteorite fell to earth and obliterated much of the East Coast of the US, including Washington, DC. The ensuing climate cataclysm will soon render the Earth inhospitable for humanity, as the last such meteorite did for the dinosaurs. This looming threat calls for a radically accelerated effort to colonize space and requires a much-larger share of humanity to take part in the process. Elma York’s drive to become the first lady astronaut is so strong that even the most dearly held conventions of society may not stand a chance against her.

Revisado: 02-18-20
I suggested this book for our book club and 0 / 5 people liked it. It feels a lot like the hobbit movies, should have been one book instead of three. The bland, flat character filler renders what could have been a great read to be lifeless. There is also an uncomfortable amount of White savior trope. The best parts are the first fifteen pages and the last fifteen pages, which were gripping.

Having just celebrated her 26th birthday in 1976 California, Dana, an African-American woman, is suddenly and inexplicably wrenched through time into antebellum Maryland. During numerous such time-defying episodes with the same young man, she realizes she's been given a challenge.

Fantastic

Wonderful story and narration. It reminds me a little of a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's court, and it seems like the time travelers wife is borrowing some things from this. It's empathetically written and feels so real. Even though it addresses slavery it's not maudlin. It's great.

It's hard to follow the speech of the reader. There is also a lot of list making. I'm not convinced that the reader is a human.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It had some thoughtful commentary about transgender people and eugenics.
