Historia
Set in the Parisian underworld and plotted like a detective story, Les Miserables follows Jean Valjean, originally an honest peasant, who has been imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister's starving family. A hardened criminal upon his release, he eventually reforms, becoming a successful industrialist and town mayor. Despite this, he is haunted by an impulsive former crime and is pursued relentlessly by the police inspector Javert.

Great book and narrator
Revisado: 11-18-23
Overall I really enjoyed this book! I alternated reading the book and listening to this narrated version. I’m glad I went with unabridged, but as a modern reader some parts felt like they lasted forever and were a bit hard to get through. Overall, an incredibly beautiful, insightful story. I liked this narrator; at first he sounded a bit affected to me, but he definitely grew on me and I think he did an amazing job of differentiating characters voices. One reviewer complained about the untranslated parts- for me having some of the original French added to the experience and I appreciated it (these parts are in fact translated to English after they’re read in French).

Historia
You've seen the headlines: Parmesan cheese made from sawdust. Lobster rolls containing no lobster at all. Extra-virgin olive oil that isn't. Fake foods are in our supermarkets, our restaurants, and our kitchen cabinets. Award-winning food journalist and travel writer Larry Olmsted exposes this pervasive and dangerous fraud perpetrated on unsuspecting Americans.

Wow, so much I didn't know in here! I'm grateful the author gave some tips and alternatives, otherwise it would have been pretty bleak. Overall, riveting and informative.
