Nice story, but...
Revisado: 09-10-18
The internal monologues - which are the majority of the story - were narrated in a high-pitched, emotionally-charged manner, which is fine in small doses, but became draining since there was so much of it.

I couldn’t get past the first few chapters. The reading as the “bad guy” just made me cringe. I’ll return it and get the print version.

Awful Narration
Revisado: 08-20-16
The narration was musical. You'd think that would be a good thing, but it's not - it's like hearing Mary Had A Little Lamb sung over and over and over and over and over again. It's almost impossible to keep your attention on the story when you keep tuning out the song. Ugh!

I will read more of this author's books, as I quite enjoyed this one, but NOT if she is the narrator. To paraphrase another reviewer, a great writer does not equal a great narrator.

Having a hard time...
Revisado: 11-20-13
What did you like best about Moonrise? What did you like least?
I haven't finished the book yet. I'm struggling through the Tansy parts, which I find VERY irritating! Lilting one's voice up and down the scale does not equal expressive! I find the reader's performance overblown, with too many long, dramatic pauses, and so many vocal acrobatics that my ears have a hard time following the story.
What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?
Tansy reader: Overblown, sing-song, excessively dramatic.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Excellent!
Revisado: 09-28-09
What a great story! It kept me riveted from the first sentence, and the narrators made me feel as though I was right there with them in Jackson, Mississippi. As a white woman, I was horrified by some of the things I heard, and I had to ask myself if I would have behaved any differently if I had lived in that time and place. I highly recommend this story to anyone.

Historia
Sister Carrie is about a young country girl who moves to the big city, where she begins to realize her own American Dream by embarking on a life of sin rather than hard work and perseverance. At the time of its first publication, the novel caused a minor scandal, and Dreiser had difficulty finding a publisher for it. This was due to its blurred division between good and bad and the fact that, at the end, Carrie is rewarded rather than punished for her immoral life.

I have only listened to two hours of this version. The story has potential, but the narrator is killing me. I've downloaded a copy by another narrator. Don't waste your money on this version.

Great book!
Revisado: 06-21-09
A good narrator can make even a mediocre book come to life. When a great narrator meets wonderful writing, magic happens. To me, this book was such magic.
A majority of the characters are gay, so if that bothers you, this is not the book for you. However, if you see people as people, and love as love, then I highly recommend it.

"Just the facts, ma'am..."
Revisado: 03-06-09
I think some reviewers have missed the point. The deadpan, cheerless narration, the melodramatic writing - it's all part of the package. The tone is set at the very beginning, when the new client mentions the bullet hole in the door, and John says dryly, "Moths." It's tongue-in-cheek and atmospheric. I enjoyed it.

I can't finish it.
Revisado: 01-29-09
I hate to waste money by not finishing a book, but there are too many great books out there for me to spend time on ones I don't enjoy. I thought I'd try this one for $4.95, but the narrator is so irritating that the story is lost. I can't get more than halfway through, and the same narrator does the other two books in the series. Too bad.
