Historia
Can a young war correspondent find herself and follow her heart? In this work of historical fiction, 20-something Annabella “Annie” March arrives in France in 1944 intending to write about the war. Soon, however, Annie begins to distance herself from her sometimes-mentor, sometimes-rival - the great Martha Gellhorn - and Gellhorn’s larger-than-life husband, the novelist Ernest Hemingway. She turns to photography in the hopes of making her own name and, to her delight, discovers that images come more easily than words.

Jumps around, narration anachronistic
Revisado: 01-31-20
WW2 subject matter and complex characters implied in the book's summary sounded like a great listen was in store. Not delivered. Character development was shallow, plot disjointed and the ending abrupt. The author's excellent descriptions of time and place were spoiled by the narrator's continual tone of ennui. Recordings from the 40s and how grandmother spoke don't sound like the disinterested NPR blog voice of this audiobook.

Historia
This volume relates the stories of the Borgias and the Cenci. The former, a family of Spanish adventurers, came to dominate the Italian peninsula, and, when Rodergio Borgia became Pope Alexander VI, the world of Christendom, in the late 15th century. The Cenci was an aristocratic family, in which rampant sexual and domestic abuse led to murder and very public execution.

Dramatic moments are lost in the reader's overly cheerful narration. I almost returned the audiobook but decided to endure it as a loyal Dumas fan.

Historia
History recalls that the ugly feud between J. Edgar Hoover and Martin Luther King, Jr., - marked by years of illegal surveillance and the accumulation of secret files - ended on April 4, 1968, when King was assassinated by James Earl Ray. But that may not have been the case. Now, 50 years later, former Justice Department agent Cotton Malone must reckon with the truth of what really happened that fateful day in Memphis.

Surprisingly tedious, interesting at the end
Revisado: 06-14-18
Unlike other Cotton Malone books, the plot does not evolve, making the action gratuitous violence.

Historia
It is 1886 and the greatest of all jockeys, Fred Archer, has put his gun to his head and shot himself. An inquest is arranged with indecent haste. His mind was unhinged by typhoid, say the jury, despite conflicting evidence. The Prince is suspicious. He admired Archer. He knows the Turf better than anyone on that jury and he has personal experience of typhoid. When he learns that Archer’s last words were, ‘Are they coming?’ he decides on action.

British-phile's Delight
Revisado: 03-07-17
A combination of history, murder mystery, detective novel, packaged with British humour and the perfect performance to bring it all to bear.

Historia
In the wake of a humbling incident aboard a canal boat in the Cotswolds, young Captain Horatio Hornblower arrives in London to take command of the Atropos, a 22-gun sloop barely large enough to require a captain. Her first assignment under Hornblower's command is as flagship for the funeral procession of Lord Nelson.

I was dubious about this one after reading reviews of the narrarator. I adjusted the reading speed to 1.1 and that fixed it for me.
