The struggle to perform well is universal: each one of us faces fatigue, limited resources, and imperfect abilities in whatever we do. But nowhere is this drive to do better more important than in medicine, where lives are on the line with every decision. In this book, Atul Gawande explores how doctors strive to close the gap between best intentions and best performance in the face of obstacles that sometimes seem insurmountable.

So interesting about how medicine has improved over the years. So many people have been helped because of this and some have survived because of the changes that were made. Highly recommend! 📘

Weak idea for a book, not what I expected
Revisado: 10-05-21
Just a bunch of stories of peoples who told how the secret helped them. Some of the stories are just so lame, like wanting a certain type of food and wow it’s there the next day. And the female narrator omg her voice is super annoying. Seriously lame book.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Just a few weeks later, the two inexperienced hopefuls abandon society and plunge into a soul-searching sojourn to thru-hike the Pacific Crest trail, a 2,650-mile Mexico-to-Canada footpath - barefoot. At the trail’s mercy from day one, the two hikers face the endless pains of walking, rising tensions, and falling behind to the coming winter.

Kinda boring with a few good stories thrown in
Revisado: 08-29-20
I’ve read quite a few PCT books and this is not at the top of my list. Way too much trail name usage and really slow narration. I had to speed it up to 1.6 times just to stomach the narration. The authors voice and delivery is just lackluster. He should have really hired someone to narrate. And he talks about trail magic a LOT, what a bunch of freeloaders, seriously. I know the trail provides but are there really this many freeloaders on the trail?

I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Mary reveals why Donald is the way he is with her account of the Trump family and her expertise as a psychologist. It’s mind boggling that anyone would write a bad review about this book.

Historia
Skinny, nine-year-old orphaned Dores is working in the kitchen of a sugar plantation in 1930s Brazil when in walks a girl who changes everything. Graça, the spoiled daughter of a wealthy sugar baron, is clever, well-fed, pretty, and thrillingly ill-behaved. Born to wildly different worlds, Dores and Graça quickly bond over shared mischief and then, on a deeper level, over music. One has a voice like a songbird; the other feels melodies in her soul and composes lyrics to match. Music will become their shared passion, the source of their partnership and their rivalry....

Extremely boring and way to long
Revisado: 11-15-19
This is a book that should have never been written, it lacks depth and the story is just plain stupid. I waited until the last minutes for it to get interesting, it never did. I listened to the audible version, the narrator draws out the names every time she says them, I had to change the speed to 2 times so that I could stand listening to it. I only finished this book because it’s a book club pick. I wish I could get the 16 hours and 41 minutes back that I wasted on this stupid book.

The Power of Habit is so good I could hardly put it down, author Charles Duhigg does a superb job of telling the many stories of success and very interesting habits of how and why we do things the way we do.
His voice is very compelling and smooth and I'm so glad he narrates the book because he's absolutely perfect!
Charles Duhigg is a very talented author and his book is one of the most interesting books I've ever read or listened to.

Historia
One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books.

Great book, good value for the money.
Revisado: 01-11-17
I thought Mini habits was great, author Stephen Guise shows how 1 push-up helped him to change his habits and how he started writing this book because of changing his habits. It's a real testament to how we can change our lives for the better if we start out very small and that it's much better than making our initial goals really high bec most people will fail if the bar is set too high. I myself started exercising over 20 years ago by starting small, I now do crossfit 4 days a week and I feel great.
I liked Stephens voice and his demeanor, he seems very relatable and he's also pretty entertaining.
