I liked it
Revisado: 12-29-21
It was well written and the reader did a good job. I live in Louisville and one of the reasons why I bought this book was to hear some Louisville history. And there is a lot of Louisville history wrapped around the story of a real murder case. When listening to it you get vibes of the book, “Midnight in the garden of good and evil.“ because of the eccentric characters. And, since the author puts himself into the story I got a little bit of Hunter S Thompson, “Fear and loathing at the Kentucky Derby“. But without the Drunkenness. I am a tough grader so I only give it four stars.

Historia
Before Nick Carraway moved to West Egg and into Gatsby's periphery, he was at the center of a very different story-one taking place along the trenches and deep within the tunnels of World War I. Floundering in the wake of the destruction he witnessed firsthand, Nick delays his return home, hoping to escape the questions he cannot answer about the horrors of war.

Misrepresentation
Revisado: 01-08-21
No spoilers. I normally don’t write reviews but I feel like this needs to be said. The reader was good. The story was fine. But it was not a story of Nick Carraway. I feel like the author had a story that he thought was decent but could not sell, so he threw Nick‘s name on it and a couple of Gatsby quotes, and added a last chapter to tie this previously existing story to Gatsby. What an easy way to make a few bucks, hitchhiking on the Gatsby name. If you want to hear about a WW1 soldier, the “lost generation” as Gertrude Stein called them, and of the events of his life immediately after the war, then this story is OK. But if you buy this book because you want insight into the character of Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby you will be disappointed. Most of what we know about Nick Carraway’s background is replaced with an entirely different person. The Nick in the great Gatsby is a bit uptight. A Harvard man who would never introduce himself ot someone without someone else’s introduction, or at least and mutual acquaintance. The neck in the story is nowhere near that type of character.

Most people should already know the story. And it’s a good story. But Sissy Spacek‘s performance makes the audiobook come alive.

The morning of her niece's wedding, Margo Just drinks a double martini and contemplates the many mistakes she's made in her fifty-odd years of life. Speed the sound up to 1.25
Revisado: 01-30-17
The book was OK. It had plot turns that were unexpected. The main thing is that the reader reads so slowly it was boring. After the first couple of chapters I thought I might stop listening. But I turned the speed up to 1.25 and the book became much more enjoyable. That speed sounded more natural to me. And I changed the speed at the same time as the characters in the book reached Palm Springs and that was when the book became more entertaining.

Excellent
Revisado: 01-15-17
I've listen to it a few times. Every time I listen to it I hear language or a turn a phrase or something I missed before and I realize how hard Fitzgerald worked to manage the language in this book rather than just tell a story. The reader is good. the story is good.

Historia
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).
