3.5....

I haven’t been able to figure out if it was the written dialogue or the way it was narrated, but something was off the whole series that made several scenes either unbelievable or less significant than what they were. I think that the story overall was a good tale and a fun adventure, but believe I would’ve enjoyed it more if I had read it myself

Tim and his friends find out the hard way that you shouldn't question the game master, and you shouldn't make fun of his cape. One minute, they're drinking away the dreariness of their lives, escaping into a fantasy game and laughing their asses off. The next minute, they're in a horse-drawn cart surrounded by soldiers pointing crossbows at them.

entertaining, but I need more
Revisado: 12-11-19
I was excited to begin the murderbot diaries because of the raving reviews, but the series is just that, short diary entries of what could be a really amazing book series with deeper details, character development and plots. if you read all 4 diaries consecutively, then you almost get just that and makes it worth the listen. if you can find the whole series on sale then definitely worth picking up, but I wouldn't use credits or buy it full price. hope Martha Wells builds on these and fills out it's potential!

Finding herself in France, she allies with the persecuted, pacifist Cathar sect in their legendary mountaintop stronghold, Montségur. There she resists agents of the Roman Church and its Inquisition, fights off escalating, bloody besiegement by troops of the King of France, and shields the mysterious cup from the designs of many. Percival, the heroic Shield-Brethren knight from The Mongoliad, consumed by his mystical visions of the Holy Grail, is also drawn to Montségur - where the chalice holds the key to his destiny.

Revisado: 11-05-19
the narrator was awful in my opinion! I don't know why there was a change in narration for the 5th installment; possibly because of a shift in character perception, but it wasn't necessary. it didn't matter what speed I listened to the novel, the whole thing was presented by a Leslie, female version of Christopher Walken; clipped sentences and all.

Historia
In this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, historian Barbara Tuchman brings to life the people and events that led up to World War I. This was the last gasp of the Gilded Age, of Kings and Kaisers and Czars, of pointed or plumed hats, colored uniforms, and all the pomp and romance that went along with war. How quickly it all changed...and how horrible it became.

Incredibly detailed... brilliantly presented
Revisado: 06-25-19
Not your textbook style doldrum story of history. There is a rich story here weaved with the historical accounts of the time. Some details are so exact and fine, you wonder if the author was there themselves or looking through a time portal. So much is written on the war and the battles, but this book gives an incredible account of everything behind the scenes, the who/what/where/when/whys of WWI that lead to and began this historical event. Bravo!

Shroud of Eternity picks up where Terry Goodkind's New York Times bestseller Death's Mistress left off, promising a thrilling brew of bloodshed, sex, deception, and sorcery. The formidable sorceress Nicci and her companions - the newly powerless Nathan and the youthful Bannon - set out on another quest after driving ruthless Norukai slavers out of Renda Bay. Their mission: restore Nathan's magic and, for Nicci, save the world.

cool ideas. nice concepts execution...ehhh....
Revisado: 05-21-19
there's several things I find myself disappointed in while listening to this book. The story itself is just okay; I would not consider it a page-turner. I also feel like there is little-to-no character development. the main characters are aggravating to me because they constantly make the same mistakes without learning from previous experience, all while their emotional fortitude is completely lacking for supposed heroes/main characters. the young boy who somewhat becomes a sword master has constant tears streaming down his face.... very annoying. To me, the story was also very predictable, simple and had too many similar, reoccurring situations while you listened to overused metaphors. the ending really picked up and was really enjoyable to listen to. enough so for a rating boost and for me to check out the 3rd book.

Laytham Ballard once protected humanity as part of the Nightwise, a secret order of modern-day mages dedicating to holding hellish supernatural forces at bay, but that was before a string of sadistic ritual murders shook everything he believed in - and sent him down a much darker path. One that has already cost him most of his soul as well as everything he once held dear.

so glad I stumbled on this series
Revisado: 01-21-19
so I found the first book in this series kind of by mistake, it's called nightwise and this second book just recently got released. They can both be stand alone stories which I like but if you're ever interested in listening to a funny, rugged, realistic, raw, modern, all encompassing supernatural-mythical-action packed story, this is a great listen that'll have you loudly rooting for Nathan Ballard!
lastly, the narrator does an awesome job bringing the characters and story to life
