Historia
In an eye-opening tour of the unconscious, as contemporary psychological science has redefined it, Timothy D. Wilson introduces us to a hidden mental world of judgments, feelings, and motives that introspection may never show us. This is not your psychoanalyst's unconscious. The adaptive unconscious that empirical psychology has revealed, and that Wilson describes, is much more than a repository of primative drives and conflict-ridden memories.

Very strong narrative, but lacks structural description of organization. would be cool to have an org chart and detailed map. Narrator is really good.

Historia
Rory Stewart and Gerald Knaus distill their remarkable firsthand experiences of political and military interventions into a potent examination of what we can and cannot achieve in a new era of "nation building." As they delve into the massive, military-driven efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans, the expansion of the EU, and the bloodless "color" revolutions in the former Soviet states, they reveal each effort's consequences for international relations, human rights, and our understanding of state building.

Great Discussion, Prerequisites Required
Revisado: 08-03-18
These were both excellent discussions of the challenges facing any organization pursuing nationbuilding.
Although I was familiar with the background in Afghanistan, I did not have a strong background in the Balkan conflicts.
I would advise before jumping into this book to do some background reading on both the Afghan conflict in the '00s and the Balkans in the '90s.

Historia
If you've wondered how we did not see the economic collapse coming, Ha-Joon Chang knows the answer: We didn't ask what they didn't tell us about capitalism. This is a lighthearted book with a serious purpose: to question the assumptions behind the dogma and sheer hype that the dominant school of neoliberal economists-the apostles of the freemarket-have spun since the Age of Reagan.

Both Fascinating and Boring at the Same Time
Revisado: 06-09-18
I liked the book. It was fascinating, and delved into topics I feel strongly about. But, somehow, it felt like a slog to get through.
Overall I don't regret listening to it.

Decent Overview of Big Ideas
Revisado: 04-23-18
Offered a thought-provoking overview of some of the big ideas in modern economic thought.
Maybe lacked some nuance regarding local political situations in trade discussion.
But, maybe that's a topic for another book entirely.

A Macat Analysis of John Rawls's A Theory of Justice

Historia
Issues of human rights and freedoms always inflame passions, and John Rawls's A Theory of Justice will do the same. Published in 1971, it links the idea of social justice to a basic sense of fairness that recognizes human rights and freedoms. Controversially, though, it also accepts differences in the distribution of goods and services - as long as they benefit the worst off in society.

Good Overview and Context
Revisado: 04-11-18
This provided a great overview and context for the book as well as Rawls' second, which is at the moment the only one available on Audible. It doesn't go too deep in explaining the mechanics of Rawls' framework like a SparkNotes would, but it's a good jumping-off point for anyone interested in tackling A Theory of Justice.
One negative that I think must be related to Macat using this in their online courses is the titles that the narrator reads out at the beginning of every section/subsection. They probably make sense in the context of a syllabus or index, but are a little out of place in the audiobook.
Narrator was pretty legit.

Historia
Our ego, and its accompanying sense of nagging self-doubt as we work to be bigger, better, smarter, and more in control, is one affliction we all share. In Advice Not Given, Dr. Mark Epstein reveals how Buddhism and Western psychotherapy, two traditions that developed in entirely different times and places and, until recently, had nothing to do with each other, both identify the ego as the limiting factor in our well-being, and both come to the same conclusion: When we give the ego free reign, we suffer; but when it learns to let go, we are free.

Great Overview of the Legal Perspective
Revisado: 06-25-17
This book provides a great overview of how the American legal system works, and explanation for why it sometimes appears to work in counterproductive or unjust ways.
The audio version throws a lot at the listener, and this book really demands your attention. I would highly recommend the audio version as a first run-through of the book to be followed by a more thorough reading of the text. By the second time, the whole thing should click into place.

Historia
He was one of the most extraordinary figures in American political history, a great natural politician who looked, and often seemed to behave, like a caricature of the red-neck Southern politico - and yet he had become, at the time of his assassination, a serious rival to Franklin D. Roosevelt for the presidency. In this "masterpiece of American biography" ( New York Times), Huey Long stands wholly revealed, analyzed, and understood.
