With a knife in his gut, Rowan figured he was destined to become just another corpse littering the slums of Taureen. So he was fairly surprised to wake up in the back of a moving wagon with a couple of adventurers. Turns out that Rowan had been given something most street rats can only dream of—a second chance.

slow
Revisado: 04-18-25
the story isn't anything original and the pacing is slow. it picked up once in the middle and died and then the last few chapters. I dont remember anything else. had to go back chapters more than I'd like.

Revisado: 09-09-24
liked the story, loved the Narrator, that being said, who ever thought that making chewing and chomping noises while speaking should quit his job and stary far away from narrative work for the rest of their life. speaking with your mouth full is bad enough, amplify it straight into my ear makes me want to delete and never pick up another! thankfully it was just the once.

why ants?
Revisado: 08-21-24
I like Jeff, his normal voice is solid and the male female narrator combo is great.
The story is good, for the most part. I honestly have a hard time getting around the fact that theyre ants. it makes no sense to me. an ant human hybrid, sure. an orc, Goblin, wolfkin, any humanoid really. anything that is remotely relatable to help immersion would have been great. but ants..... uhhhgg. besides that, there isn't any huge conspiracy or hand of god type scenario as of yet, just a guy reincarnated as an Ant in a dungeon type world who quickly becomes an OP Ant in said world. simple. worth a credit for the pack for sure.

way better than the 1st book.
Revisado: 12-08-23
The 1st read through of book 1 seemed good. The 2nd time I read it in preparing for this book, I started to hate it. mainly the main character. I couldn't stand his stubborn selfish bs and the fact that regardless of being held back, he always managed to be on par with the group. which means the academy really sucked at their job. also, the 1st book should have been way longer. as it stands, the whole journey through the academy was like a mnth long. poof done. the MC should have been WAY behind the class after getting back in and yet is equal if not slightly better. for no reason. he's beyond reckless and drags his friends with him. All of whom follow for little reason. I hate him. Then, the 2nd book redeemed him. a bit. At least it did after he was betrayed. most people didn't like it, but that was what made him into a man and not the teenage bullhead. as a solo, his actions made more sense and found myself behind him again. finnaly. his victories felt more deserved. I even respected him a bit.
the only other issue is the length. these 2 books should have been 4. the time span at the academy alone could have been 3 and elaborated on. the story Flys through what should have been yrs in a matter of mnths.
overall, it's not bad, and I would definitely get the next if released.

its good the 1st time, ok the 2nd.
Revisado: 11-19-23
i don't know if it's 2023 that has me hyper aware of immature stubborn bs or what, but I liked this the 1st time. saw that there was a 2nd book now, so I reread this one and 3/4s of the way through. I find myself wanting the MC to die. he's an idiot and is so intent on power rt now and who he may have been 250+ yrs ago. everything and everyone else is irrelevant. it makes me want to yell at how stupid he's becomes.
2nd, don't even bother trying to figure out the Hell aspect. there isn't one. at least not in any way that we know it, and it's never explained.

Historia
For those who reside in the outer regions of Aleria, the day of bestowal is what determines their destiny. It is the holy day of the Goddess. The day that allows those of age to step forward and receive their blessing, to embark on the path that she has chosen for them. To receive their Classification, which dictates their strength and ability. For those people, the holy day of bestowal represents fate itself. For Dante, it represents salvation.

good story, not so good execution
Revisado: 09-28-23
I do like this book. I like the Narrator. the only issue is the background of the MC does NOT fit with the story as a whole. I get that he needed to be an outcast but the extreme the author went to doesn't fit his personality or how he acts around others immediately after leaving his town. you don't spend you life alone and being abused and still have any kind of manners or trusting personality towards strangers.
basically, if you ignore the 1st couple of pages before he receives his mark, you'll be good. then you'll just have to look past the few times where he acts like a hurt puppy for little reason.
Its really minor compared to everything else. I honestly wish that the series continued.

final book of the trilogy has a new Narrator
Revisado: 08-31-23
It's a nice little deviation from Drizzit and not something I regret purchasing HOWEVER. The 3rd and final book to this trilogy, which I just purchased and downloaded, is NOT narrated by Victor for some reason, there were not many reviews complaining about it, so I had no idea. it's horrible. HORRIBLE. Victor has done some 12 books up to this point and then this guy. what's worse, he's not even good on his own to the point that he'd grow on you. I tried and tried, and I just can't, so bc of that, I wouldn't bother with reading any of the trilogy. just skip to the next Drizzit book.

meh
Revisado: 04-13-23
I listened to the 1st two books bc they were free. Unfortunately, I can't see myself spending a credit per 13H book for the rest of the 7 books in the series. I listen to A LOT of Audible, a 13H book would last 2 days, 3 max. That being said, it's not a bad series. The MC is not the greatest but not annoying either. he's a little overpowered but only in 1 area, and it's believable, so it's fine. his personality isn't a constant contradiction.
The overall story isn't anything unique, but it's written well.
The Bad.
The Narrator, he is definitely not the worst I've heard, but I think this story would have benefited from a different narrator. one a little more enthusiastic, bit more range maybe. idk, it just seemed a little dull, I guess. Basically, I listened to book 2, it ended, I didn't have another book lined up so, I restarted the 2nd book and there were 2 or 3 parts of that I actually remember listening to.
That is my only real complaint, that and the fact that it's broken down into tiny little 10H books w/o being put into a bundle.

trilogy worth the the credits
Revisado: 01-17-23
After 300+ books on here, I've learned to wait until after the 2nd time through before actually giving it a review. sometimes, I have no idea what I was thinking the 1st time.
This trilogy is not one of those, thankfully. This is my 3rd listen, and it's still pretty good. unique story, well written, and a great narrator. I wish it was longer, there were times when it felt a tad rushed but not often.
I'd definitely recommend

omg the STATS!
Revisado: 12-08-22
A good 1/3rd of this book is stats. seriously. kill a band of goblins? let's go through every peice of jewelry plus the weeks worth in my bag. that happened more then once. then you think it's done and oh wait, the leader has stuff. then we get to sit through his entire wardrobe and personally stats. i never noticed it in the previous books but this one drove me freaking nuts!!!! after EVERY SIGLE FIGHT, there's a chapter with the exact same chapter you already got through only with a bit higher levels. never abbreviated anything. the full description and alert, 10 rings in a row. shoot me now.
its BS, I don't care about the meta shit on the MCs title page. just have him say " Sweet, I leveled up, 10pts in whatever" and MOVE ON!
