Parker has a one night stand while on a work conference. One year later, in walks the woman of his dreams and his one night. Only she is more than that. Cashlynn is Parker’s boss’s daughter. And before Parker has any time to process what’s happening, Cashlynn announces they are engaged. Now they are living together and learning more and more about the other.

Leading up to Parker’s story through the rest of the series, I wasn’t sure I was going to like his story. He was too “anti-love” and I didn’t know where his story was going to go. But I love Parker. From the prologue, you immediately feel for him and realize how broken Parker really is. Cashlynn wants to be seen and finally pursue her passions. Adding in her ‘make him break’ antics, I was loving these two so much.

Let’s be honest. I am a sucker for relationships of convenience. When it's written by Harlow James, I know I’m going to enjoy it. Add in Emma Wilder and Teddy Hamilton as the narrators, and we have a solid gold story that I love. Cashlynn when she has had a few drinks, that narration from Emma had me cackling. I felt myself in that moment and loved the way it was narrated.

Everything to Lose
Story: 9/10
Spice: 2/5
Spice Hierarchy: Spicy
Narration: 5/5

Wyatt and Kelsea have been best friends and more like family since childhood. And they have loved each other for almost as long. But both have been too afraid to act on it because they could lose everything. Needing a little nudge to see what life without Kelsea would be like, Wyatt’s brother convinces Kelsea to pretend to date him (for a hot minute). It was just the nudge Wyatt needs, but what happens next? Could they gain everything they have always wanted or do they stand to lose it all?

I have been wanting to read this story in the Newberry Springs series since I read book 2 last fall. Wyatt and Kelsea are the ultimate story of friends to lovers. Kelsea has already lost her family, her fear of losing her found family is so profound. Plus she is deciding to finally go after her own personal goal, but then along comes boyfriend material Wyatt. Does she lose herself, her family, her dreams? And then there’s Wyatt. The mouth on this man 🥵 And the way he was jealous/possessive once he tells his brother “She’s mine,” I was done for.

Hearing Angelina Rocco was able to bring Kelsea to life with her internal monologue, fears, and strength. Once Dane Anderson opens his mouth as Wyatt, I melt for every chapter. His possessiveness, yes sir 🫠

Everything He Couldn’t

Evelyn has been casually seeing John but needs him to step up when she finds out she is pregnant. Walker is John’s best friend and tries his best to get John to see everything he will miss out on if he doesn’t step up. One tragic night changes everything. Six months later Evelyn is a single mom and Walker is processing his survivor’s guilt. To make it worse, Evelyn’s parenting is called into question. Walker suggests they get married to show solidarity as a family unit. Little does Evelyn know, Walker has loved her for awhile now. Walker is ready to claim his chance at happiness.

Evelyn’s family really is awful and the past she got away from makes her so apprehensive to commit to anyone. I loved how much Walker loved Evelyn and Kaydence right from the very beginning. Both Walker and Evelyn have to come to terms with what it means for them to be together now and watching them both learn to understand each other better through this process was amazing for their characters.

Walker Gibson is mine. And I will fight anyone that tries to claim him. This book had my favorite tropes and they were done perfectly: small town, single mom, marriage of convenience plus firefighters and found family.

Narration Review: Dane should always read as any matriarchal figure. His voice as Momma G was priceless. And when that man growls as the MMC 🥵 Angelina brought so much passion and depth to her part that I loved her voice for everyone.

Shauna and Forrest were high school sweethearts and even had plans to go to college together before getting married and running Forrest’s family ranch. But right before graduation, Shauna changed the plans, only letting Forrest in on part of the truth. Secrets and long distance didn’t work well. Fast forward 15 years and Forrest is in Vegas for a work trip and who should he see but Shauna. And meeting her fiancé. After realizing he would regret everything if he didn’t tell her how he felt, Forrest goes back to Vegas to ask Shauna to call off the wedding. Six weeks later while nursing his heart break, guess who shows up to work at his family ranch; Shauna.

Oh I loved this second chance story! Forrest and Shauna need this healing. I absolutely loved that once Forrest was willing to admit what he wanted and willing to forgive past mistakes/hurts, he was all in. And yet he was open to tell Shauna that he was in but needed time to process what that meant and how the past had impacted him. It made their love feel more realistic. Forrest has kept himself closed off from his family for so long and watching Shauna bring him back was endearing and humorous at the same time (hello musician and elf costume). His dad’s gift in the epilogue had me in a puddle of feelings.

Penelope does PR and is one of the top at the firm. She is asked to work with the newest NFL team to Southern California and she does not want it. She has a firm “no athletes” policy for her personal and professional life. Her boss convinces her. But guess who is the newest player to the team? The one athlete she’s been with. Maddox Taylor. Maddox remembers everything from his one night with Penelope and he sees it as fate that she is now working with the team. But Penelope tries to deny their chemistry since she hasn’t had a relationship for 12 years and she is working with Maddox so they can’t be anything more.

Penelope has been the story I have been waiting for from this series. She is sarcastic, determined, and unapologetically herself. Then Maddox enters the room and just loves her even with all her rough edges. There is no doubt that he falls first and does everything he can to show Penelope just what she means to him. Penelope begins to fall for not just Maddox and his bedazzled parts. But she has some healing to do first. That process for her was done so well and I loved Maddox and Penelope that much more after.

I was worried about who would be able to do justice to Penelope’s character. And Erin DELIVERED! It was flawless. She was the perfect cast for Penelope. The prologue and first 3 chapters are all Penelope’s POV so I was getting anxious for Maddox. Jacob opened his mouth for chapter 4 and I was hooked. Both Erin and Jacob were perfect. The little nuances they added made this a performance.

Noelle is ready to be a mom and after years of dating not getting her the results of finding a partner, she takes it into her own hands. A few months after her daughter is born she meets Grant as he quite literally gives her the shirt off his back while she experiences one of the most embarrassing moments of being a mom in public. From that moment, Grant is gone for both Noelle and Scarlett.

I have no complaints. Zero. As I have been listening to this series I didn’t love Noelle, even though I knew her story would be single mom and it’s one of my favorites. I just didn’t connect with Noelle in the previous stories. Well. She is my favorite now. Maybe a top FMC of all time. And then there’s Grant. He was perfect from the start and the moment he called them “my girls” I was in a puddle.

Harlow wrote the absolute truth of being a mom. It’s the best and hardest job ever. She had me laughing one moment and then almost crying the next with how relatable this story was.

Now let me share about the narration. Absolutely perfect. CJ Bloom and Connor Crais are the best possible voices for these characters. These characters are in their upper 30s and CJ and Connor delivered. They weren’t playing 20-something’s. Their emotion came through for both. And let me tell you, Grant (Connor) and Noelle (CJ) have things be to emotional about.

Max has been the mafia enforcer and right hand man for the Moretti family for years. He has also been off limits to Joey since he is her brothers’ best friend. Joey wants a seat at the table, to be seen as more than the mafia princess, and she wants Max. However, her brothers have strong feelings against allowing Joey too much insight into their mafia lifestyle. Max doesn’t want to do anything to risk his place with the Moretti family, even if it means continuing to deny himself his chance with Joey.

Did I always know what was going on with the mafia, Bratva, or mob-no. Did Sadie write it in a way that was easy to understand even if almost a year has passed since I read book one-yes. But I craved every interaction with Joey and Max. Even if it was them verbally sparring. Anytime the two of them were together was like catnip and I couldn’t get enough. I loved the way Max loved Joey, no questions asked, his only hold-up was his loyalty to the family and her brothers. Once he was in, he was all in, no matter the costs.

I think Sadie’s alpha men are written to be narrated by Joe Arden. His performance brings to the story that I don’t think many others could do. Brooke’s portrayal of Joey was the perfect balance of naivety and youth, brattiness, and Moretti fierceness.

Harper is trying her very best to balance work and being a single mom. She doesn't have time for fun or games with all the other demands in her life. Enter Kyle Bosco who is only around for a good time but is not happy that Harper ruined his team’s chance at the World Series. Now that the season is done, Kyle is forced to spend some time with Harper and her kids to fix the media storm. Kyle is there to push every single one of Harper’s buttons while also showing up for her and her family day in and day out.

As a teacher working with students on the spectrum, as a parent of a child with a hidden disability, as a mom, and as a human, I love this story. I knew I would love it when I saw the tropes (single mom, ASD representation, reformed playboy). It was a top read of 2024 and the audio brought me to my knees.

Erin and Stephen did so much more than read the words on a page. This was a performance. Everything was so heartfelt. The sighs of frustration, the laughs at Kyle’s antics. The delivery of Piper’s matter-of-fact way of thinking and Sam’s young voice. Although I had already read the story, this made it feel new again.

I don’t care that it's January. I’m saying it now, this will be a top listen for me this year.

Lachlan is Ainsley’s brother’s best friend. And 4 years ago she kissed him. Now the single dad, firefighter, first round prospect is the subject of Ainsley’s upcoming article. Lachlan wants nothing to do Ainsley’s article.

While Ainsley was hurt by Lachlan’s disinterest, she still uses her sass and is unafraid to flirt with him now. And I loved that for her. Her feelings had been hurt years ago but she doesn’t fade in on herself around him now. Lachlan is a what you would expect of a small town firefighter. Even when others view him as a hero after a fire, he maintains he was simply doing his job. This type of humbleness is what he maintains until he has Ainsley 🥵

I loved the way this series is set up with each of the future MMC playing on a competitive Ultimate Frisbee league and being former high level athletes.

The banter and wittiness comes through the narration and it’s one of the reasons I love listening to audios.
