Life Changing
Revisado: 07-01-24
I love how simply Brother Lawrence explains how to practice God's presence. If you've picked this book up it's probably because you're craving closer relationship with God. Brother Lawrence says that God will answer this prayer and teach us to do this through Holy Spirit. I'm so thankful for this modern translation. I originally tried to read it in its original text. I couldn't understand it at all. Some might be able to, but not I. I love this book and I'm getting ready to listen to it for the 3rd time. Like the Bible you can hear new things each time you listen to it. I highly recommend this book!

Historia
Best-selling author Brock Clarke is acclaimed for his wry, absurdist humor. In Exley, Clarke introduces nine-year-old Miller, who becomes convinced that his father—who left without explanation—must have run away to join the military, and is now lying comatose in a VA hospital. Thinking a visit from his father’s favorite writer will help revive him, Miller decides to track down "A Fan’s Notes" author Frederick Exley.

Yuck!
Revisado: 04-30-13
What would have made Exley better?
If there was anything that held any meaning. Unless this is the authors own life experience, I didn't see any reason for this story other than anger
Would you ever listen to anything by Brock Clarke again?
No
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I liked the boy. I felt bad for him. I don't think this story could take place anywhere. The characters were wildly unrealistic and nuts. If it was science fiction that might have redeemed it slightly
Any additional comments?
It left me feeling disturbed, frustrated and sad

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

Educational & Intriguing
Revisado: 04-30-13
Would you consider the audio edition of The Kite Runner to be better than the print version?
Hearing the book read by the author was good. It took a bit of time to understand some of the different words but at least I heard the proper pronunciation
What other book might you compare The Kite Runner to and why?
Outlander series, jean Auel... I like to learn while being entertained. It showed me a side of Afghanistan I don't know bi enjoy stories based on other cultures. I learn even thogh it's fiction. I really like fiction written by authors who research real events and experiences. It helps me to grow and understand cultural difference and real history
Have you listened to any of Khaled Hosseini’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Not yet
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did have a good reaction to this book. It was disturbing at times but the author didn't catch the audience by going into shocking detail about everything. He reported what happened and only described the horrific when necessary
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this authors style. He didn't attempt to create fake and impossible happy endings, although I feel the book was ended well and reminded us that there is always hope and the human spirit is strong

Light & Fun

Would you listen to Full House again? Why?
It was fast paced and fun to listen to. I've been listening to too many intense books and noticed a lift in my spirits while listening to full house
What other book might you compare Full House to and why?
Never read a book quite like it. Reminded me of Stephanie Plum but with closure
Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to a number of her performances. She has a great range in character voices. I enjoy listening to her
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I like to listen while doing mundane tasks. There are quite a lot of mundane tasks so I prefer to draw it out. Although it was an easy and entertaining read and I could have listened straight through
Any additional comments?
I'd like another book about nick and Billie It would be interesting to see if a series could be created around a happy couple
