So refreshing, and more relevant than I expected
Revisado: 08-25-24
So refreshing, and more relevant than I expected, especially for Christians in the U.S. The author explains the correct way to understand the book of Revelation, which is totally different from the way I (and most Evangelicals) have been taught. Then he explains how the popular (incorrect) interpretations have led Christian Americans to make bad decisions regarding how we respond to our society, how we wage our culture wars, and our political activism. We gave into our fears and followed the way of Babylon instead of following the Way of the Lamb, Jesus Christ - the Prince of Peace.

Biblical womanhood - the belief that God designed women to be submissive wives, virtuous mothers, and joyful homemakers - pervades North American Christianity. From choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics, this belief shapes the everyday lives of evangelical women. Yet biblical womanhood isn't biblical, says Baylor University historian Beth Allison Barr. It was born in a series of clearly definable historical moments.

An Excellent read in support of mutuality
Revisado: 07-12-23
It starts off rather dry, but hang in there! Beth Allison Barr provides a very deep and detailed history of women in ministry while sharing personal details from her own life and others in our current society. Both the historical and current are portrayed in a way that captures your attention. The Biblical truths she points out support the legitimacy of women having equal standing in history, and convince me that we should have that equality now as well.

Historia
Many Christian women are torn between how the church has taught traditional gender roles and the liberty they see secular society afford to women. But what if the church's conventional teachings on the place of women aren't really biblical at all? On Purpose is a serious study on the verses in the Bible that have often been interpreted to define the role of women in the church, at home, and in the workplace. Julie Coleman reveals how the timeless principles in the Bible actually teach freedom for women. In fact, when rightly understood, these verses are a wake-up call.

It only makes sense
Revisado: 08-24-22
The main idea that it's not responsible to form a belief in a rule or strict principle that goes against what 99% of scripture teaches, just because it seems like a couple verses are teaching that belief, is usually applied to most topics by most Christians. Like healing and prosperity, for example.

Everyone should read or listen
Revisado: 07-02-22
I think we all need this book to some extent. Even if you have nothing significantly negative in your past that is affecting your relationships now, your spouse probably does. If you're both free from anything like that, then this book will help you prevent problems for your children, and help you understand others in your life.

Historia
In Redeeming the Feminine Soul: God's Surprising Vision for Womanhood, popular national radio host Julie Roys reveals the stunning truth that no one else is talking about: Women are destroying themselves. Internalizing society's devaluation of the feminine, some women are killing their own natural impulses to pursue a feminist ideal that bears no relation to God's good design. Other women struggle to conform to a fundamentalist feminine caricature that requires denying their full humanity and gifting.

Extremely insightful. Men should read it too.
Revisado: 05-25-22
All Christians should read or listen to this, in my opinion. So many problems in our families and churches could be improved greatly or totally eradicated if we all grasped these concepts completely. I learned a lot and it was refreshing to hear some of what I believed all along to be explained so much better than before and confirmed to me. Thank you for sharing your deeply personal experiences and your soul for us, Julie. This book is such a blessing, and helps me have much more compassion for anyone struggling with identity.
