Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Lessons in Pronunciation
Revisado: 12-05-22
I really did enjoy this book. My biggest complaint was the narration. I loved it and hated it at the same time. Her voice was very good if not flat in just a couple places. However, I cringed every time a word was not pronounced correctly. With the amount of times that the name Jack Lalanne was in the story, one would think that it would have been pronounced correctly. It actually took me out of the story every time his name was said. I'm hoping that his living children never listen to this book.
As for the book itself, I really enjoyed this story. It is no wonder that B&N named this Book of the Year.
If you grew up watching Jack Lalanne on tv like I did, perhaps reading the physical book would be better.

All Creatures Deserve Love
Revisado: 04-20-21
I truly enjoyed this book. When I was halfway through it, a coworker asked who it was for. I told him that I would recommend this for 10 years through adult. A woman balked at that and then I told my fellow employee that I was only halfway and that maybe something happens in the second half that might not make it age-appropriate. Having finished the book I can definitely recommend this to people 10 years through adult.
Linus is in a work rut but quite content on putting up with the bs of his office life, his landlady and everything life has given him. As a caseworker, he is given the task of reviewing and making recommendations on homes/schools for magical youth. One day he receives a call from Extremely Upper Management and finds he is to be sent to a home on a secluded island and make a report. What he finds is a lesson in acceptance. He learns that every child deserves a chance. The knowledge that family doesn't need to be biological. And that all people and creatures are deserving of love, including himself.

A Magical Book
Revisado: 04-20-21
I worked in the kid's department of a bookstore. I LOVE kid's books as much as I love trade books. When I read a book I try to put my old present-day self into my younger self. As an adult, I was able to foresee what was happening next, I saw a few plot holes, I wished that the characters were a little more developed (they may be in the next books). As the younger me, I LOVED IT.
Carter finds friendship, a place he belongs and himself. He knows sleight of hand better than most but learns that life is full of magic and the magic he knows can be used for good.
And who doesn't love NPH? I actually purchased this audiobook even though I own the physical book. Why? Because I wanted NPH to read this book to me. What a treat.

Beautiful
Revisado: 02-16-20
I own a copy of this book in print. I keeps getting pushed down in my "to read" pile. However it is there because several people had recommended it. When I saw that Jim Dale narrated the book, I decided it was time to take this for a spin. I loved it. This is one of those books that you want to sit down with the author, in this case Erin Morgenstern, and ask them how they came up with this story. The characters were well written and I became invested in all of them. They were part of a wonderful fantasy that Morgenstern created and I never knew existed until now.
Well done. Now I can't wait to dive into The Starless Sea.

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Bright eyed and bushy tailed...
Revisado: 02-16-20
I manage a cafe so when this audiobook popped up, I grabbed it. I've also read Michael Pollan in the past and knew that this was going to be a good choice. First, I enjoyed the narration. Pollan's voice is easy on the ears. The history of caffeine and all the information along with Pollan using himself as a guinea pig was enlightening. I am 56 years old and never drank coffee until about 2 years ago. Not only is it my livelihood but it now plays a big part in my personal life. This was very interesting and I will be going back and listening again.
My only wish is that this was also in print.

Historia
What? You don’t know Adam Wade? Here’s your chance! Adam Wade’s personal-yet-universal stories and vulnerable delivery have made him one of the most popular storytellers and comedians in the country on "story slam" platforms like The Moth and Comedy Central’s Whiplash. This Audible Original, performed on stage in front of a live audience, combines Wade’s greatest hits stories with entirely new material.

Entertaining listen
Revisado: 01-17-20
I had a couple hours to kill this morning before I had to go to work. I decided to listen to a short audiobook. I picked this one up as one of my free Audible Original books. I found Adam Wade entertaining and funny. I laughed, not at him but with him and recognized myself and many people I knew in his stories. I found myself rooting for this underdog. I felt his pain and was happy to listen to his successes. Everyone ought to know Adam Wade.

Magical Music
Revisado: 01-04-20
I couldn't sleep last night so instead of turning on the tv I turned on this audiobook. I don't regret a second of it.
If you are a fan of magic and you love music, this is a good book for you. This book with its unique way of intertwining magic and music is highly entertaining and I would recommend it for Middle School ages.

Men weren't the only people who lived history
Revisado: 12-04-19
Having moved to the South from the West Coast in 1986, I didn't know much about history through the Civil War era. Over the years I learned much but there was still a gap. Thanks to people like Pippa Pralen, The gap in history that includes women is starting to close just a little. This is a must read (must listen to) book for anyone interested in the Civil War and that era. It is a collection of journal entries told from various different women. From the wealthy land owners to poor share croppers to women in slavery, there is so much to learn. These women proved that even when being knocked down, they could pull themselves up by the boot straps and do what needed to be done. Pralen did a very good job of piecing these stories together and Virginia Ferguson did a great job of being the voice for these many courageous women.

So much Godly Fun!!
Revisado: 07-11-19
First, this is not for children (language) nor is it for those without a sense of humor (maybe a little bit sacrilegious).
I've read the bible (KJV) several times in my lifetime. Never have I read anything bible related that was this fun. I put this audiobook on as I was washing dishes. I was laughing so hard that no other housework was finished. I had to listen to the 4 hours worth of audiobook. Now, the bible makes much more sense. ;)
Not quite as random as a Monty Python skit, this is definitely as funny. The narrator, Joshua Saxon, was the perfect choice to reading this but I'm not sure how he got through the reading without laughing. I would love to listen to another collaboration of Eldridge and Saxon.

A Novel Idea
Revisado: 06-06-19
With a twist on history, this book is full of science fiction and fantasy. There is more religion than I thought there would be but I wasn't distracted by it. This story was an interesting way of explaining how Albert Einstein was able to come up with his ideas and theories. The story begins centuries ago and jumps around in time. Easy to follow and interesting to see where it was going.
I requested this book because it sounded very interesting. The writing was well done. The narration was enjoyable. I know several people I would recommend this to.
