Historia
As an Afghan girl, Zarifa Adiba has big, unfathomable dreams. Her family is poor, her country mired in conflict. Walking to school in Kabul, Zarifa has to navigate suicide bombers. But Zarifa perseveres, nurturing her passion for music despite its “sinful” nature under Taliban law. At sixteen, she gains admission to the Afghanistan National Institute of Music, and at eighteen she becomes the lead violist, conductor, and spokesperson for Zohra, the first all-female orchestra in the Muslim world.

I'm so inspired
Revisado: 05-05-24
Zarifa is my new role model - she has inspired me to pursue my interests, and to encourage others to do the same, for the sake of a brighter future. I hope Michelle Obama has listened to this book, written and read by her biggest fan :)

Khat, a member of a humanoid race created by the Ancients to survive in the Waste, and Sagai, his human partner, are relic dealers working on the edge of society, trying to stay one step ahead of the Trade Inspectors and to support Sagai's family. When Khat is hired to find relics believed to be part of one of the Ancients' arcane engines, they are both reluctant to become involved. But the request comes from the Warders, powerful mages who serve Charisat's Elector.

Not the best narration but certainly not the worst
Revisado: 11-17-23
I found this book while I was waiting for the newest book in the Murderbot Diaries to be released - I'm officially a self-proclaimed Martha Wells fan. I love her world-building and unique character perspectives.
The narrator isn't my favorite and he did rob some of the characters of their ability to be taken seriously, giving them somewhat "cartoony" voices, but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't finish listening or get fully immersed in the story.

Historia
When Murderbot discovers a dead body on Preservation Station, it knows it is going to have to assist station security to determine who the body is (was), how they were killed (that should be relatively straightforward, at least), and why (because apparently that matters to a lot of people - who knew?). Yes, the unthinkable is about to happen: Murderbot must voluntarily speak to humans! Again!

Murderbot in a Detective Mystery
Revisado: 10-30-23
I love how the genre of this series somewhat evolves with each book - the first book was very dystopian thriller and this book is more of a sci-fi detective mystery - and somehow I love it all the same.
