Worst narrator
Revisado: 01-16-24
The story was way too long. The narrator used the absolute worst accent for some of the French/English characters. A combination of cringe-worthy cockney and comic French. Horrible and managed to negatively detract from the story every time these characters spoke.

Really contrived
Revisado: 09-04-23
If you like bible references, going to church and football, then this is the book for you. I personally had a hard time getting past all that to appreciate the story/mystery and will not take another chance on this author.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Improbable
Revisado: 08-23-23
The most improbable story I have listened to in a very long time. More coincidences than you can count on two hands and most of the characters are simply weird and unbelievable. Did not like this book at all! Also the narrator often swallowed audibly—very annoying.

Historia
Where does one go, you might ask, when the world falls apart? When the immutable facts of your life—the mundane, the trivial, the take-for-granted minutiae that once filled every second of every day—suddenly disappear? Where does one go in such dire and unexpected circumstances? I went home, of course.

Very slow start
Revisado: 08-03-23
Almost gave up on this book. It was a very slow start and took about two hours for me to even start caring for the main character. Ergo the 3 stars for the story. The style of writing was clever though, so I kept at it. Glad I did and enjoyed the feel-good ending.

The most ridiculous storyline i have encountered in a very long time. The narrator was over dramatic and grating to listen to. Don’t waste your money!

Horrible
Revisado: 06-03-22
Even though I listened to most of this story, it was one of the worst I downloaded in a very long time. The narrator was awful at speaking the daughter’s voice and not great for most of the rest. And the story itself was absolutely implausible!

Historia
In March of 1926, Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher and her friend and collaborator, Lady Lucy Gerald, head off for several days to a stately home reputed to have the best grotto in the country. Working on a book of architectural follies, they plan to research and photograph it. Leaving her husband and young twins behind, Daisy is expecting a productive weekend at Appsworth Hall, with the only potential difficulty being keeping Lucy from offending the current owner, a manufacturer of plumbing products. Alas, it's not to be quite so simple.

Interesting story
Revisado: 06-10-21
But the narrator for Els (Imogen Church) is so grating, I often had to fast forward just to get through her bits. Rosie Jones is a great narrator though, so hard to rate the performance: 5 stars for Rosie, 1 for Imogen. She is way too dramatic and sing-songy in her expression—a big turn-off for me. The story itself was very engaging and I learned a lot about what went on in China during WW2. Recommend reading over listening.

Historia
1945. Allied forces liberate Nazi-occupied Brno, Moravia. For Gerta Schnirch, daughter of a Czech mother and a German father aligned with Hitler, it’s not deliverance; it’s a sentence. She has been branded an enemy of the state. Caught in the changing tides of a war that shattered her family - and her innocence - Gerta must obey the official order: she, along with all ethnic Germans, is to be expelled from Czechoslovakia. With nothing but the clothes on her back and an infant daughter, she’s herded among thousands, driven from the only home she’s ever known.

Too too long and convoluted
Revisado: 02-27-21
One of the most drawn out, and at times confusing to follow books I have listened to in a very long time. I was interested in the time and place of the story and learned a bit about some of the trials that the Czechs experienced following WW2. However it was at times hard to follow the thread from one chapter to another and I found it frustrating and distracting from the story. Also the reader was pretty awful. On the whole not a total waste of time but just barely.

Historia
Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they’ve failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore. But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up.

Beware this book is mostly about god, the Bible, Jesus, etc.
Revisado: 01-10-20
I had no idea this author wrote with a very Christian bias. Would never have bought it had I known! Plus the story itself is just plain sappy and the reader equally so.
